(CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama discussed his vision for the world in a wide-ranging foreign policy discussion with CNN's Fareed Zakaria.
The Democratic presidential hopeful answered some tough questions about how he would deal with the world's crises, what he would do if Osama bin Laden is caught and his plan for Iraq.
Here are some highlights from the interview, which aired Sunday on "Fareed Zakaria -- GPS."
ZAKARIA: Tell me, what is your first memory of a foreign policy event that shaped you, shaped your life?
OBAMA: A first memory. Well, you know, it wasn't so much an event.
I mean, my first memory was my mother coming to me and saying, "I've remarried this man from Indonesia, and we're moving to Jakarta on the other side of the world."
And that's, I think, my first memory of understanding how big the world was. And then, flying there and landing. This was only maybe a year, or even less than a year, after an enormous coup, the military coup in which we learned later that over half-a-million people had probably died.

Exactly. We in America are just Islam’s latest victims.
"progressives" have an uncanny ability to be wrong on almost every single thing they say. Apparently they spend their time in school learning how to protest, blame and complain...but don't spend a whit of time actually learning facts, history and the truth.
Thanx
Thank you!
Welp! Time to head for woik. :)
While I remember, to all those who mistakenly think that the final word, the decision, the top dog authority in Islamic iran REALLY rests with Supreme Ruler Ali Khamenei, take note:
At religious meals, more or less set up as vows to feed sone poor (sofreh) on behalf of an Islamic saint, the Ahmadi-Nejad Presidency has introduced the “empty place, empty plate” rule.
People thought that this empty place was designated to respect the Superme Ruler but he and everyone else discovered it was there for the 12th Imam, the Mehdi of End Times.
When Khamenei (echoing Khomeini) called Ahmadi-Nejad onto the carpet and asked him to stop all this nonsense, on his way out Ahmadi Nejad remarked openly to others at the office that “does he really think I am HIS president? I am the president of the 12th Imam, not of Khamenei”
This literaly says it all when you remember that Ahmadi Nejad has filled virtually EVERY post nationwide with his paramilitary Passdaran (Revolutionary Guard) colleagues and members - from the very top positions down to mid-low level supervisors. Nationawide!
While there are now splits among some of them, and dissatisfaciton with his ecomomic plans, as a whole they support each other and recognize they owe Ahmadi Nejad their positions of power and income and status.
We may well wake up one morning - not only see the bombing of iran but the arrest of the Supreme Ruler and a bunch of others if he messes seriously with the lunatic Ahmadi Nejad.
The latter has already cast accusatory aspersions against the Supreme Ruler and his supporters through a Majliss (parliamentary) commision to examine corruption of the top 51 mullahs and associates of Khamenei.
Don’t underestimate the little man with a Napoleonic complex and suicidal cult philosophiy of the Hojatieh sect of islam even Khomeini could not stomach and banned, driving it underground till after his death.
The Hojatieh, protected by its leader Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi are the power behind the islamic regime throne.
Excellent points FRiend, and this ought to highlight the necessity, not the mere desirability, of targeting Ahmanutjob on his upcoming trip to New York City for the opening of the U.N. General Assembly.
In 1943, FDR instructed his Navy Secretary Frank Knox to “Get Yamamoto” and based on our intercepted and decoded messages, it was learned that Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the planner of Pearl Harbor would be landing on Ballalae on 18 April, and our P-38 Lightnings were waiting for him, and Yamamoto managed to croak out one last big Bonzai, and he was history. A tremendous blow to the Japanese war machine, and a real boost to allied morale.
Now if FDR had the guts to order the shooting down of Yamamoto, the only question remaining is:
Does George W. Bush have those kind of guts, since America and Iran are in fact, in a technical state of war based on the Iranian invasion, occupation and violation of our Embassy in Tehran in 1979?
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been issuing threats left and right on nearly a daily basis, against our ally Israel, and against the United States. He is spoiling for a fight.
There is approaching, an opportunity to lop off the head of the snake, send that little Iranian runt down to Davy Jones locker, and the world will be a better place.
If as you state FARS, the mullahs have been supplanted in their authority by Ahmadinejad, taking out the little bastard with a flight of F/A-18 Hornets gives the rulers in Iran a window in which they can then change the suicidal path their nation has been traveling down.
Or, if they fail to do that, the message will be clear:
“They’re Next”
Well George, what’ll it be? You want a REAL legacy worth talking about? Here’s your chance.
Islamic Jihad is Communism in disguise, always was and always will be.
They hide behind the religion, wear the trappings and talk the talk, but all of their strategies and tactics are strictly from the Stalinist play book.
They freely sacrifice others while proclaiming their purity of religion, and they are keeping us, "The West, The Judeo-Christian world, or whatever term you wish to use", on our heels with leftist stunts that go back to the 20's, only the main "victims" are not workers, or migrants, etc, now they're "Flying Imams", and similar "Innocents".
Communism=jihadism, they are one and the same with the same results in mind, World domination.
I fear he will be duly installed as our next President, ala Bill Clinton.
No matter his lack of experience, his angry wife, his hateful pastor, his lack of integrity or character...
..we need to prepare ourselves.
The RNC gave us McCain....they had to have known he would be rejected, we're not stupid.....
..and if this man does squeak by, we are in as great a(or greater) mess.
Obama is the people's chosen, and I still believe Hillary will fit in there somewhere....her kind are never out of the picture...
And maybe all 3 players are part of a kabuki dance or political shell game, and they laugh at our anguish & fear....all 3 of them.
We had/have no recourse....May God help us through this.
Countless good & patriotic folks have thought, through the years, that if they obey the laws, if they strive for excellence and try to uphold our nation by bringing goodness and graciousness in all they do, they will succeed in extending the life and liberty of this beautiful country.
No one can take away from the selfless, courageous acts of patriotism that many sacrificed for....
..but it's truly a battle of good vs evil....it's that simple, really.
While good men strive to do right, evil men plot to overthrow & destroy.
We should never regret all the effort we invested toward doing what's right...
..but the time has come to regroup and decide what our future course of action will be.
BUMP.
Good information and good advice.
The last "little man" we underestimated was Hitler.
Click on my screen name for my take on what that course must be.
God bless you, Guenevere.
Thanks for the ping!
Obama/Paul- 08!
