Princeton High Classmates Fondly Remember Tony Snow

He was a Kentucky native who rose through the ranks, to become one of the nation's most prominent figures.

Former White House press secretary Tony Snow, 53, died Saturday after losing a battle with colon cancer.

Snow was born in Berea, Ky., and grew up in Sharonville, Ohio, before he graduated from Princeton High School in 1973.

Classmates Share Memories Of Tony Snow

While he is likely best known for his time in Washington, D.C., and as an anchor on Fox News, many who grew up with him said they still remember him as a friend.

"[He was] funny, charming, very smart and just one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to know," classmate Robyn Carey Allgeyer said.

Those who knew him in high school said that they knew his love of the media would grow into a successful career.

Snow spent time working for newspapers before turning to radio, television and eventually the White House.

His classmates said that despite all his time in the public eye, he was the same guy they got to know years ago.

"What you see is what you get. He was that was as a press secretary, he was that was as a speech writer, as a journalist and he was that was as a classmate," Rick Spaulding said.

Snow doesn’t have any family currently leaving in the greater Cincinnati area but he remained connected with his hometown.

He came back over the years for high school reunions and to take in Reds games too. He even threw out the first pitch a couple years ago.

Doesn’t this call for a Senior Class picture?

One of the good guys who demonstrated that conservatism can compete and win in the realm of ideas without having to engage in emotional and irrational muggings.

I met him at CPAC in 1994. He was so nice, and took the time to pose for a picture with me. He was like President Reagan in his pleasant, forward looking disposition. Same thing when he spoke at CPAC in 2007 and 2008. I thought he should even run for president himself.

So unfair he would be taken at a young age.

I think that Foxy has it— wasn’t it a graduate school picture?

I’d like to say that it was University of Chicago but while I remember everything, I reserve the right to remember it wrong

:o

I tend to find myself on the receiving end of the irrational, persistent muggings by Liberals who think they must convert me or kill me trying.

:) That’s great.

I was thinking of the one where he was sporting a full beard.

I think the photo you are referring to is the student ID photo from Tony's post graduate work in Illinois. I posted it once because I thought the incongruity of it was priceless. But, I sensed Tony was not happy with that particular photo, so out of deference to Tony, I'll let you professional photogs dig it up. 8)

Although it would be nice to break our sadness with a smile.

No, we have the smile just thinking about the story. No need to post it if Tony didn’t like it.

:-)

Such a nice person! I didn’t realize, but am not surprised, he was born in KY. Some of the best folks in the world are Kentuckians! This man exuded class, character, all the attributes of a true conservative rolled into one man. God Rest his soul.

I wish I knew he was a FReeper. That must have been fun. I heard he posted when he had his radio show.
