These new devices are an interesting development, but not really new. I recall one day in August, 1971, we were receiving a resupply and the battalion S-2 flew out to give me some important information. The VC and NVA were using a new type of "lob bomb", they would take artillery shells and unexploded bombs, fit them into baskets that contained an explosive propelling charge and use them to lob these munitions into the perimeters of American units. I thought this was strange, but thanked the S-2 for taking the trouble to fly out and tell me. Three days later, during another resupply, I heard a loud explosion outside the perimeter and looked up to see a large object tumbling through the sky in our direction. I had just enough time to order everyone to take cover and jumped into a bomb crater. The object was a 500lb bomb and when it exploded it knocked me senseless. No one was hurt, thanks to the S-2.
These guys are clever and resourceful, as were our enemies of an earlier day. But, they can be beaten as we are showing everday in Iraq.
I wonder how people in the “hood” are feeling about their careless/unlucky bomb makers? And is there any sign of their doing anything about it?
“””The type of improvised launch system and rocket is not new to warfare. The Irish Republican Army used a similar system to conduct a February 1991 attack on 10 Downing Street, the London office and home of the British prime minister.””
As stated ......:o)

Some sort of high-powered automated skeet shooter should be able to handle these. The technology is available and therefore doable.
Ever get the feeling a lot of these things are intercepted, boobie trapped, then sent on their way?
Brings to mind that brilliant footage of the guys working a morter. After every shot, Aziz yells “alla ackbar”. After the second shot, ‘KABOOM’ no more alla ackbar. No more Aziz.
Not very good at it, are they?
