Newsweek: Obama's Lead Slips
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 11, 2008 | TOM BEVAN

Posted on 07/11/2008 7:08:35 PM PDT by FocusNexus

Newsweek turned heads with a poll two weeks ago touting a massive 15-point lead for Obama. Their newest survey has heads turning in the other direction, showing Obama's lead dwindling to just 3 points over McCain:

Obama 44 (-7) McCain 41 (+5) Undecided 15 (+2)

In the Newsweek poll, Obama's support among Republicans and Democrats was basically unchanged, but his support among Independents dropped 14 points, to 34% from 48% two weeks ago.

McCain increased his support among Republicans by five points (to 83% from 78%) and among Independents by five points (to 41% from 36%).

More encouraging news overall.

But there are still 12% of Republicans who say they plan to vote for Obama. Those are the real RINOs.

I can almost guarantee that by the time we are done with boom-boom that number won't top 6 or 7%.

You mean the Obama flip-flops aren’t working working on the voters? Who’d a thunk?

These numbers are aren’t bad. There is plenty of time to shore things up. Just wait till McCain picks a VP, the convention, and the debates.

With all the advantages he has, Obama should be up by double digits! This is not a good sign for the Democrats. At this point in time in 2004, John F. Kerry, a far weaker candidate, led by 17 percentage points.

I was painfully stuck in a jury lounge and saw CNN talk about these defectors. They called them "Obamacons".

More like “Drops like Meteor”. I wonder what the real poll figures looked like .Newsspeak was force to show this massive swing downward for there Messiah. I have a feeling people are not real overwhelmed by either person.

I don't think Obama ‘s boyfriend Matt Drudge will be showing this in a HEADLINE !

Probably reverse psychology by Newsweek, hoping to rally the dims. I don’t trust anything from “News-tweak.” Including their polls.

“Just wait till McCain picks a VP..”

Yes.

Given McCain’s age and his efforts to complete alienate the conservative base, this choice is especially important and, I believe, makes or breaks the election.

No matter what the substance of the debates, OReader, will be declared the winner by his LeftMedia, and in the minds of the visually-oriented, vacuous America voters, will indeed have “won”, strictly based on his “smooth” appearance and delivery.

They don't exist outside the Obama media .
I read all about how Obama’s media guy Axelrod made up this
phony term with a Whisper campaign back in November.
Its a hoax the Inside the Beltway Dem media wants to believe so they keep repeating it.Axelrod is a former newspaper propagandist so he knows how to peddle these LIES over and over again. Its fascinating to watch the Obama media doing his bidding.

I disagree on the debates. Obama never did very well against Hillary who was his idealogical equal. I don’t expect him to fair well against McCain. He will look like a little boy with a deep voice.

i seriously doubt that 12% of republicans will vote for obama!

either they’re not republicans

or, later when they realize that their taxes are going up,

they’ll get religion.

“obama republicans” is a joke.

I hope you are right, but he has already deluded much of America and I don’t just mean flighty young girls and the slam-dunk 95% black racist vote; people from whom I would have expected better judgment.

Then there is the problem of McCain’s presence and delivery. A wee notch below the exemplar of the great communicator, Ronald Reagan would’t you say?
