Hot-on-the-heels of news that Darren Aronofsky may be directing MGM's Robocop reboot, the studio has announced plans to remake another '80s feature in the shape of Red Dawn.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Red Eye scribe Carl Ellsworth will pen the script, which will update the story to modern day.
"The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in," explains Ellsworth.
"As Red Dawn scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"

Nor listened to the Chaplain’s presentation at the link in my tagline.
Nor the likes of this telling dream—one of many dozens of similar dreams folks all over the world have had about the USA:

Tinfoil hat assaults are easy to toss around . . . particularly when folks haven’t done their homework.
The heroes will probably be a couple of guys who turn out falling in love and having a homosexual relationship...
Brokeback Dawn
“Gerbils!!”
Actually, now that I think about it, we’ve all seen a glimpse of a Red Dawn remake before.

Gerbils!!
Now that’s funny...
It is a fine motion picture. I said at the time it should be shown in every American High School.

Speaking of Patrick Swayze... Good thought going his way.
It’s funny how so many people here can already predict how Hollywood would remake this movie and come up with similar scenarios. Hollywood liberals are so predictable now.
The only people Red Dawn scared was the Soviets and the Communists in the Democrat Party who were afraid of a united USA.
Are you being serious?
What you stated sounds very frightening.
Code Pink Dawn.
I can’t see The Postman as a remake of Red Dawn.
It was a very original story with a very interesting premise (the whole “postman” thing).
I know it was looooong (three hours), but I sorta liked it.
Colt carbines on horsback.
Cool.
The token girl of the resistance will be Paris Hilton in an open-face burka, who smuggles the needed tasers under her voluminous garb.
The enemies will be a weird amalgamation of rural Christians and some Svengali like Wall Street guy who represents "corporate interests".
It will most likely flop.
What you mean like this? No eye protection, no hearing protection, no four million square inches of international orange safety clothing and no Hunters Safety Education course certificate? Just kill the enemy any way you can and steal all his equipment and supplies? How hatful! The enemies self-esteem might be offended.
No ... it'll be an inside job led by the evil Republican regime.
If the US economy doesn't collapse before the end of 2008 will you admit that your “sources” are a bunch of kooks or will you have “access” to new top-secret info that they postponed it?
Think of the time, when the Soviet Army was too rigid and doctrinal for its own good. They were getting their butts kicked by small bands of goat herders in Afghanistan at the time because they couldn't adapt to the tactics.
Wait and see, I guess, but in the Huck Finn movie Jim went free, and in Scarlet Letter Hester and the preacher split the town to set up a love shack somewhere.
I'm growing a long mustache.
