Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- With pro-life advocates and John McCain's campaign criticizing his position in favor of unlimited abortions, Barack Obama struck back on Thursday. The Illinois senator put forward an absolutist position in favor of abortion and attacked McCain for wanting judges who don't make law from the bench.
"I will never back down in defending a woman's right to choose," Obama said at a breakfast fundraiser with an internal campaign group called "Women for Obama."
"That's what's at stake," Obama added, referring to control of the Supreme Court and whether abortion will remain legal and without limits for another 35 years.
"Senator McCain has made it abundantly clear that he wants to appoint justices like Roberts and Alito -- and that he hopes to see Roe overturned," Obama said, according to an AP report. "I stand by my votes against confirming Justices Roberts and Alito."
Obama is campaigning with his half sister and pro-abortion former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and orchestrating events with women voters who may have supported his formal rival and are upset that he secured the nomination.
During the event, Obama promised to adopt Clinton's position in favor of abortion and promote it as president.
However, Clinton admitted that, for some of her former presidential backers, it may be difficult to get behind Obama in the general election.
"I understand how challenging it is to turn on a dime, to say, 'Close that chapter now, we're on to the next chapter,'" she said. "It is a process, it does take time for people to just take a deep breath and go forward."
Yesterday, the head of a pro-life women's group said Obama's record on abortion is extreme and that it wouldn't go over well with either women or American voters in general.
Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser pointed out how, last week, Obama was trying to make his absolutist position look better.
"Barack Obama knows his extreme record on abortion doesn't resonate with everyday American voters, so now he's trying to soften his image," Dannenfelser told LifeNews.com.
"It won't work. From his active opposition to the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act to his support for the radical Freedom of Choice Act, Barack Obama is anything but moderate on abortion," she said.
She explained that, "Obama's abortion-friendly voting record shows his commitment to abortion on-demand, at any time, for any reason, funded by American taxpayers."
How DARE you support judges who actually follow the Constitution!
The line in the sand.
(Apropos of the shifting sand that is Barack Obama.)
“Hit me agin, Br’er Bear!”
“McCain ain’t a cure per se, but he can be the ointment that provides some relief from itchy nuts.”
Not if Jesse gets to them first...ennnf
“reproductive heath” is what gets me. Other than the death of the child what does health have to do with it in most cases??
“I will never back down in defending a woman’s right to choose,”
I never let anyone say this in my presence without adding
“to kill her unborn baby”.
It really psses off some folks, but I just tell them that they’re not talking about “choosing” which ice cream flavor they prefer.
Barry is an incredible dildo.
more like
“consequence-free sexual behavior choices”
than “reproductive health”.
I never let a lib hide behind their callous euphamisms.
EXCELLENT
Any Catholic who now votes for him is defying all that our faith teaches.
Calling Nancy Pelosi, calling Ted Kennedy....

I wish we could find a way to make Obama’s position on abortion know to all Catholics.
LMAO!
You do have to be careful though because there are some pamphlets out there that are not sanctioned by the church.
Or “reproductive rights.” Just another smokescreen to distract from the horrors of liberal positions. “Affirmative action” and “diversity” are a couple of others.
If only all Catholics listened....Obama would be toast.
McCain should answer: "Ahem. Mr. Obama, YOU'VE VOTED TWICE IN FAVOR OF INFANTICIDE. Why the hell should anyone take advice from YOU?"
"Choose what?" asked the rational and imaginary reporter. "Do you mean killing infants in utero? Is that what women have a 'right' to do?"
A woman’s right to choose WHAT, Herr Obama?
SAY IT!!!!
Maybe we should call him "Steely Dan." It kind of fits.
OTOH, I don't want to associate him with great music.
