Because it mentions Indians in reference to commerce and representation, you infer that establishing foreign sovereign states within the boundaries of the US is ok?

Your post read like an all or nothing. Indian territories can’t operate as independent nations because they don’t have the same status, resources, or territories before treaties were broken/discarded.

Absolutely not! I have visited Foxwoods, who have golf courses, hotels, resorts, museums, upscale restaurants, unwritten but understood dress codes, shops, theaters, an arena, you name it! They pay well, treat their employees well, pay the state millions per month in taxes, and they DO NOT draw crime of any kind to the area. In fact they have upped the appeal, the economy, and standard of living in the entire area by at least 80%.

And I have visited Mohegan Sun, with the exception of a gulf course, they have all the same attributes the Foxwoods does.

Conservatives should not be in the business or of the opinion, that personal responsibility should be waived in favor of restrictive controls. Vice related crimes??? That sounds like term right out of the socialist handbook. It isn't up to you to decide what others do with their money. I go to concerts there and played slots for a while, no real money invested, but if someone can afford it and chooses to spend large amounts, it is not for me or anyone else to say he or she shouldn't. That is called socialism.

I hear that! ANY business, like Indian tribes having sovereign land, that can in any way ignore any kind of state statute or regulation, especially in the NE, is under attack constantly to find ways to rule over them. Even if so doing is unconstitutional.

Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun don't sell cigarettes tax free, or gas either, but they do offer for folks who go a lot, cards with which to gain points that can be used for spending at their casino and occasionally they offer trading of points for gas cards.

Someone far more knowledgable than I needs to answer this, but weren't most "indian territories" outside of the US at the time of the ratification of the constitution, and thus technically the US developed around them.

Indian territories were merged with US territories to create states. Oklahoma indian territory for one, merged in 1906 or somewhere around there to create the state of Oklahoma.

Oklahoma could not become a state unless while the indian territory remained a separate tribal ‘nation’.

You’ll be interested to know that the UN promotes the idea of sovereign nations for tribes and indigenous groups within the borders of countries, because it creates disunity and dissolves national authority over them. See Kosovo for more information.

That’s just what is happening to this country. Back on the reservation!

” My question remains . . . what business does a white judge have making rules in the Indian nation ???”

My question remains, why do we have any nations within this nation? Either we’re Americans, or we are not. Enough! If the “indians’ want sovereignty, let them form a state, just as my Indian relatives wanted to do in the 1700 and 1800’s. Soon it will be Islamic ‘reservations’ and we already have a Mexican ‘reservation’...it’s called LA.

What does 'white' have to do with anything? Remember justice is blind, in a free country.

By “white” I meant someone who was not part of the Indian nation involved. Applying that standard, in theory at least, an African- American judge could be considered “white” ! ! !

Why would anyone from a separate nation have to be involved in a case about an American city?
