On the last day of the G8 Summit in Japan, President Bush met with Chinas President Hu Jintao (Transcript), Indias Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (Transcript) and Republic of Koreas President Lee Myung-bak.
The President then delivered a statement as his final G8 Summit came to a close. (Transcript)
You know, oftentimes in the political process people talk big, but they never follow up. And so one of the key ingredients of these recent meetings was all of us need to be reminded that when we say we're going to do something, we got to do it. And so accountability is an important part of fulfilling our obligations.
President & Mrs. Bush returned to the United States this afternoon. Shortly after arriving at the White House, the President spoke about the FISA expansion bill that was finally passed by the Senate today. (Transcript)
This vital intelligence bill will allow our national security professionals to quickly and effectively monitor the plans of terrorists outside the United States, while respecting the liberties of the American people. This legislation is critical to America's safety; it is long overdue.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice traveled to the countries of Bulgaria and Georgia. In Bulgaria, Dr. Rice received the Stara Planina Order, the nations highest distinction, for her role in obtaining the release of Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor jailed in Libya last year.
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates held a press conference today at the Pentagon and welcomed Panama's Minister of Government and Justice Daniel Delgado.

President Bush: Today the United States Congress passed a vital piece of legislation that will make it easier for this administration and future administrations to protect the American people. This vital intelligence bill will allow our national security professionals to quickly and effectively monitor the plans of terrorists outside the United States, while respecting the liberties of the American people. This legislation is critical to America's safety; it is long overdue. Months ago my administration set out key criteria that this intelligence legislation would have to have before I would sign it into law. The Attorney General and Director of National Intelligence report that the bill Congress passed today meets these criteria, and therefore, I will soon sign the bill into law.
President Bush: This bill will help our intelligence professionals learn who the terrorists are talking to, what they're saying, and what they're planning. It will ensure that those companies whose assistance is necessary to protect the country will, themselves, be protected from lawsuits for past or future cooperation with the government. It will uphold our most solemn obligation as officials of the federal government to protect the American people.I want to thank the members of my administration who worked hard to get this legislation passed. I thank the Democratic and Republican leadership in the Congress for their efforts, particularly House Majority Leader Hoyer, House Republican Whip Blunt, Senators Bond and Rockefeller, Congressmen Hoekstra, Reyes and Smith.
This legislation shows that even in an election year we can come together and get important pieces of legislation passed.
Thank you.
Thanks silent_jonny, especially enjoyed the pics of Condi tonight, what a picture of Grace she has been for the last seven and half years. Thanks again.
THANK YOU for this AWESOME DOSE . . . the photos are extraordinary tonight!
Does our president ever get any rest? . . . He just returned home from an overseas trip and goes back to work immediately; of course, it was for a good purpose.
ONCE AGAIN, OUR SUPPOSEDLY LAME DUCK PRESIDENT DEFEATS THE DEMOCRATS (re FISA) AND BY DOING SO CONTINUES TO DEFEND AND PROTECT THIS COUNTRY!

AGAIN, A LUNCHTIME GLIMPSE OF BUSH IN CHAT MODE

RUSUTSU, Japan It would not be a G-8 without a microphone mishap.
Division at G-8 Over Climate Goal (July 10, 2008) When leaders of the worlds richest nations, the so-called Group of 8, gathered two years ago in St. Petersburg, Russia, President Bush was caught using some blunt, colorful language as he munched a roll during lunch. For four enlightening minutes, the world was treated to an unvarnished view of George W. Bush as he expounded on everything from his penchant for Diet Coke to his long-winded fellow leaders. (Im not going to talk too damn long like the rest of them.)
At this weeks gathering on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, the lunchtime microphones were on again. The life-of-the-party president, mingling before the meal, chatted animatedly about his parents health, his birthday and the corruption charges facing one of his best buddies in Europe, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of Italy.
You can read the entire article here: [NOTE: When President Bush gets caught on mike, he sounds like the warm, caring person he is; when leftists get caught on mike, they sound like Jesse Jackson!]

JONNY!
Condi’s looking sharp, as always. She’s amazing.
Thanks, Jonny, for your time and work.
GW...is who he is...and makes no bones about it. He has never
been caught on tape being nasty or condescending...just being GW!
WE all know who he is and what he is all about, and that’s
what counts!
Ahhhhh...our handsome/beautiful first couple! Great Photos
of the Day, Jonny!
Thank you for all your hard work. We need sanity island more
every day...especially after listening to each days’ news.
Condi just continues to be one of the most beautiful and most
intelligent women in America! Man! I wish she would be the
VP for our side. It would give me hope!
Whew! Safely home....thanks be to God for that!
Thanks for the wonderful pictures. You can only see them here.
MSM decided long ago never to cover President Bush.
Are you the first person to post photos from both sides of the dateline for the same date? Seeing a photo of the President at the White House on July 9th, and the First Lady in Hokkaido on July 9th, is weird, until we realize that we must be reading about two different days. The world is so tiny these days! Its almost like the President came home on a space shuttle, anything else would be too slow.
Good evening—I mean, good morning, Kas ;)
What a mammoth dose! You should get a medal like Condi did today.
Hi, Snugs :) I crashed right after the All Clear last night, lol
My pleasure :)
