When I worked in the Senate in the '90s, the two senators famous for being absolute princes to work for were Sen. Helms and -- it pains me to tell you this, so you know it has to be true -- Sen. Teddy Kennedy. (He was so nice to his staffers, he frequently offered them rides home in his car after parties.)She had me going there for a minute...her wit is as sharp as ever.

QUOTATIONS FROM CHAIRMAN ANN July 3, 2008, 3:33 AM Zevon fans are so smart! -
Post from freerepublic.com:
If you look around seriously regarding John McCain, youll realize you cant trust the guy at all on any subject.
You're preaching to the choir. He is the worst GOP candidate of my lifetime, and I am getting long in the tooth. I was raised by political activists and I know my way around GOP Headquarters. I know how things work. I was absolutely horrified when McCain pulled that Florida victory off. The way the primaries were front-loaded killed off any chance of anyone stopping him, especially after Rudy threw his support behind McCain and he and Huckabee formed their alliance.
I have known all about John McCain from day one and fully understand the situation. I am not voting for McCain; I am voting against Obama. I know the arguments inside out. I am doing what I believe is the correct thing to do. You won't be able to convince me to do otherwise.
My only hope is that McCain is self-serving enough to choose a strong VP and lacks his maternal longevity genes. No one thinks less of McCain as a candidate than do I but we are at war with Islamic Fascists and I refuse to vote against the United States of America. I will not provide aid and comfort to the enemy. I will reluctantly do my duty and vote against Obama.

I read the article and it’s classic Ann Coulter, very well done. I can’t see where FR was quoted, however. Perhaps you could point me in the right direction?
It only makes the financial bankruptcy of the Establishment press that much sweeter. Queen Ann Rox!

Lyn was part of Reagan's Kitchen Cabinet. Those of us from Bakersfield were extremely proud of him. He was like a Ross MacDonald character. Very smart, rumpled suit, biting wit and a big fan of telling it like it was. I wish Ann would have met Lyn. They could have had an awesome baby. Of course Lyn's wife Bonnie might not have been too keen on the idea
Another Bakersfield hero no longer with us is Joe Shell, a state assembly man who ran against Nixon in the 1962 California gubernatorial primary, thus robbing us of a Republican Governor but leading to the election of Ronald Reagan in 1966 and ultimately altering history in a way that is impossible to over-state. Joe died a few months ago; Lyn in 2006. These were the men who inspired me as a pre-voting budding political junkie in the 1960s and 1970s. It is so easy for me to get misty eyed over the loss of Jesse Helms. Like Lyn Nofziger and Joe Shell, Helms was an icon. I look around the field hoping to see someone who can "touch the books they've read". They just don't make guys like them any more.

ANN COULTER: THE NEW YORK TIMES VS. HELMS, PART 529,876 (Free Republic Quoted)LOL!
Sort of.While some may think that your thread title falsely implies -- (perhaps to get more FReepers to click on this thread?) -- that Ann quoted FR **in her article** this week, in your defense I will note that the maximum length of a thread title on FR is only ninety-nine characters.
So, you probably just didn't have room to post what you REALLY wanted to:ANN COULTER: THE NEW YORK TIMES VS. HELMS, PART 529,876 (Free Republic Quoted on Ann's website last week)
When Helms heard about the massacre of Christians in Sudan, he openly wept and prayed for the victims.
Yeah, that Helms, he really was a racist.
Both of the local fishwraps here—the Durham Herald-Sun and the Raleigh News and Observer—played up the “Helms never repudiated racism” angle, multiple times, in their coverage leading up to his funeral yesterday. It was absolutely disgusting.
Welcome to Nifongville.

“It's pretty much the same thing liberals are accusing B. Hussein Obama of right now. In its July 4 editorial, the Times harangued Obama for his diversions from the liberal line on Iraq, the domestic surveillance bill, capital punishment and guns. I believe the editorial was titled something like, “Get in Line, N-word.””
If that one didn't take liberals’ breath away, this one did:
“To paraphrase Dan Quayle, to be called a racist by these people is a badge of honor. Rest in peace, Jesse Helms: New York Times stock was recently lowered to a notch above junk bond status.”
The best thing about her zingers is that they're TRUE!
I think that clarifies perfectly the sort of man Helms was and note he did it privately not like all these moonbat celebs who do it to crow about their international concerns usually toting a child of color etc
Ann Coulter made a boo-boo by neglecting to mention that President James Monroe also died on the 4th of July. This was the same James Monroe known today especially for “The Monroe Doctrine”.
Somebody that Senator Jesse Helms knew a great deal about, respected and tried very hard to honor. In fact, Senator Jesse Helms, more than just about anyone in Washington, remembered and tried to uphold the Monroe Doctrine.
Ann needs to get married and have a dozen or so kids. NOW. We need her contribution to the gene pool.
When I first heard that Jesse Helms died last friday the first thing I thought about was that Jefferson & Adams also died on the 4th of July.
Hey, Annie, her is fodder for your next column. John McCain/Duncan Hunter 2008. On Jan. 21, 2009, we start the impeachment.
Rest in Peace, Senator.
A great laugh out loud line.
