A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre Tuesday afternoon.

County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.

Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole."

That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.

Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term.

What the hell, the only story I see here is that Price and Jones made a racial slur against whites. How is that not the headline, along with the fact that a commissioner and a Judge are complete idiots?

The assumption by any person that all whites are racist and then to assume anything a white person says must have a racial undertone is the definition of racism. I am tired of being stereotyped because of the color of my skin, just because I'm white does not mean I'm a racist.

I do so want to be politically correct, but it is really hard to keep up with the rules. For example, I have never been able to figure out why “people of color” is politically correct but “colored people” is not.

Many years ago, Crayola renamed their “flesh” colored crayon to “peach” color. Now that the word “black” is no longer permitted in polite society, I wonder how they will rename “black” crayons?
