Do Democrats Care about Chavez and his Oppression of the Jews?

Ed Lasky
American Thinker has long noted that many leading Democrats seem to have a special warm spot for Hugo Chavez, the increasingly dictatorial President of Venezuala.

He is a supporter of the FARC terrorist group operating inside our ally Colombia's territory. He is a fomenter of radicalism throughout South America, a partner and good friend of the Iranian regime. In short, he is an anti-American tyrant who lately has been trying to impose Nazi-like police powers in Venezuala.

He has had a high-level summit meeting with the Holocaust-denying, Holocuast-planning Presdient of Iran,
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad . Just this past week, government officials have been linked to Hezbollah-helping to fund the terror group and giving its members safe haven.

Even the New York Times has taken note of the increasing dictatorial powers that Chavez is grasping for ("
Chavez Seizes Great Economic Power," "Chavez Decree Tightens Hold on Intelligence" ). Despite these reaches for power, certain leading Democrats seem to have no problem with Chavez.

From an earlier
American Thinker article

Ex-president Carter helped him secure his position by certifying election results that others have cast doubt upon.

In 2002, 16 Democratic Congressmen, including senior Judiciary Committee member John Conyers of Michigan, voiced their support for Chavez when they sent a letter to President Bush complaining that America was not protecting Chavez from internal opposition to his authoritarian and increasingly erratic rule.

In that same year, Representative William Delahunt of Massachusetts established a 'Venezuelan Caucus' to show 'friendship to President Chavez'.

More recently, Congressman Edward Markey (also of Massachusetts) joined with Delahunt to accept cheap heating oil for their constituents from Chavez under a program Chavez rolled out to curry favor with certain Congressmen in America. The program, awkwardly called 'From the Venezuelan Hearts to the US hearths', has several political aims.  It is geared towards minority communities in America as a way to garner support for Chavez among these groups. By doling out oil at a 40% discount in liberal congressional districts and allowing the incumbent representatives to take credit for it, Chavez is hoping to influence the makeup and policies of Congress and place these Congressmen in his debt.

This same discount oil has lured a Kennedy, ex-Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy III (also of Massachusetts), to hook up with Hugo. Chavez supplies discount oil for Kennedy to run through his Citizens Energy Corporation. Jose Serrano (D-NY) is also a Representative who will benefit as his constituents receive this discount oil. While Chavez's most recent rantings and ravings at the United Nations brought forth some expressions of disapproval from some Democrats (Congresswoman Pelosi and Congressman Rangel), others like Delahunt downplayed it, and Iowa's Senator Harkin actually supported Chavez.

Despite various outbreaks of anti-Semitism promoted by the govenrment of Hugo Chavez, these Congressman have remained silent. Jewish day-schools have been raided by machine-gun toting "policemen"-an image that brings back the horror of Naziism. The regime even has its pet philsophers who are inspired by Nazi ideology.

Venezualan Jews are being driven from their homes,
forced to relinquish their private property to the regime.Commentary Magazine takes note this month of the increasing persecution suffered by Venezualan Jews who, while not alone in bearing the brunt of Chavez's megalomania, have been especially targeted by the regime for "special treatment". That treatment looks to become even more harsh.

Yet, the Democratic Party-long supported by American Jews not only remains silent in the face of this persecution but has also taken steps to defend and to help Hugo Chavez by among other things, holding up a free-trade agreement with our Colombian allies - a position supported by prseumptive Democrat nominee for President Barack Obama.

“Do Democrats Care about Chavez and his Oppression of the Jews?”

No. And neither do many American Jews, a large number of which, esp. in voting block terms, are secular “jews” with the same socialist outlook as the Demcr@ps. Ergo, they both give their fellow socialist Chavez, who has power the Democr@ps can only aspire to (although Nov. might CHANGE! that), a complete pass on whatever he does.

Not kidding. Not one bit.

I doubt it most are even aware of this or would care, and that includes most American Jewish Democrats. To be sure they would give a mild rebuke to Chavez for appearance sake, but that’s it.

A good read. Jewish democrats, however secular the majority of them may be, are always an enigma to me.

What is new here, liberals/fascists, from at least President Woodrow Wilson forward, have been anti-Semitic.

"Do Democrats Care about Chavez..."

They adore him and wish to emulate his every move.

"...and his Oppression of the Jews?"

Of course not. They love oppressive Socialists and Communists and are jealous that he has more power to oppress his subjects than they do.

Leftists are, at their core, Pragmatists.

Which means they don’t care what methods are used to achieve their goals. And their goal is collectivism.

Jewish voters who support Democrats, are no different than black people who support the Democrats.

They both blindly support that party without a care of what the Democrats do to their people.

Why should there be any question...

They Democrats, in response to their left-wing base, did everything possible during the 1980’s to prevent assistance from reaching those in Nicaragua who were struggling against the totalitarian Sandinistas - even as the Soviet Union had operatives IN Nicaragua helping arm the Sandinistas.

The Democrats are liberals put in power by liberals - and liberalism is a terribly skewed and suicidal view of the world.

To protest Chavez and his Red, anti-American, antisemitic regime in Venezuela, there are two simple things one can do:

(1) Don't buy CITGO gasoline or use CITGO products or services.

(2) Say NO to Chavez' pal - "Osama" Obama - in November.
