Discontent is rising throughout the land, and Chávezs popularity is in free fall. The president, who is more and more erratic and contradictory, has fewer resources to spend on remedying the situation and faces a unified opposition. Lets hope that the countrys democratic forces can resolve what is a very tough situation for the government and put an end to a regime that has created nothing but unnecessary conflicts and greater poverty for almost everyone.

After the oil stoppage of late 2002 to early 2003, Chávez decided to fire no fewer than 18,000 of PDVSAs employeesalmost a quarter of the total staff. Not only did he openly violate all labor laws, but he lacked the most basic common sense any business owner must possess. The dismissal left the companys activities in complete disarray, especially because the majority of the dismissed employees were technical, scientific, and managerial workersthe backbone of the industry.
As a result of the firing, as well as decreased investment in exploration and technology, PDVSA dropped its production from by about 500,000 barrels a day, from 3 million to about 2.4 million. Of that amount, which did not increase in the subsequent years, PDVSA sells about 1.2 million barrels to the United States.

Don’t feel sorry for him. Chavez will get preferential treatment from Obama and the democrat congress. That will enable him to rise to the top spot in Latin American leftist politics.

Knock, Knock
“Who’s there?”
“Momma Chavez, can Sluggo come out and play?”
“Who are you? And why do you have guns?”
“Can Sluggo come out? Or do we have to come in and get him?”

Does that mean Chavez won’t be sending heating oil to the poor in the NE US this winter.
The two worst national leaders ever to destroy their own countries.
Utterly puke evoking.
It will not end nicely. It will end up like Zimbabwe................
...you idiots down there sold your souls to Chavez (and did it so cheaply.)
I’m sorry, but you’re stuck with him. If he has to call out the military to maintain his power, I think he’ll do it.
So pay your taxes and smile.
When the king of Spain suggested to him that he shut up, Chavez was exposed before the world as a blowhard. It was a loss of face that started the freefall of popularity.
That is when the tide turned, but it also didn't help later when he sent his troops to the Columbian border, threatening to attack, and Columbia didn't even bother to respond. His troops just sat there for a day, and then went home. Who will fear him after that, no matter what he buys from Russia?
