MIAMI - Less than a day after becoming the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, Bertha surprised forecasters Monday by quickly growing to become a major storm with maximum sustained speeds of 115 mph.
Bertha started as a Category 1 on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale of hurricane intensity and was only expected to become a Category 2 before weakening.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center said it was still too early to determine if Bertha will eventually hit land, but it was moving in the general direction towards Bermuda. Forecasters urged residents there to monitor the storm’s progress.

Yep, Al Gore has got to be happy about a strong hurricane. He just wishes it would hit a populated area so as to be the center of news for weeks, so he can blame global warming.
The media and weather wenches are as happy as farmers dancing in the rain after a long drought. For two full years plus, the mild stormweather has made fools of these pseudo scientists. And they know it.
Even so, a Cat 3 hurricane out in the middle of the Atlantic is a slim basis for such obvious jubilation.

Never mind that June 1 is the traditional start of the hurricane season.

My Grandmother on my Mother’s side was named Bertha, and a finer Christian lady you would be hard pressed to find.
And she was one helluva shot with a pistol, rifle or shotgun.
Pretty busy out there, but nothing seems to be able to get it’s act together. Yet.
