Why Black Republicans Support Obama
World Net Daily ^ | 07/07/08 | Jesse Lee Peterson

Recent comments by well-known black Republicans J.C. Watts and Armstrong Williams that they're conflicted about the upcoming presidential elections and are contemplating voting for Barack Obama have sent shock waves through the Republican Party.

I'm hearing many black Republicans echoing similar sentiments. They say that because of the historical significance of casting a vote for the first legitimate black presidential candidate, they may cross party lines. These statements don't surprise me.

Why Black Republicans Support Obama

Some. ...far from all. And their conservatism is obviously only skin deep.

You are right, and I am sorry.

However, if it is true that these guys are contemplating throwing away years of conservative talking points to vote for Barack Obama?

Their loyalty to conservative values is only "skin deep."

A real black conservative could never vote for Obama. On the other hand, a black Republican could vote for Obama because he identifies more with color than character.

Because black Americans have long been catered to by liberal Democrats, most still feel like they're owed something. Even the staunchest black Republican believes that his party owes him.

A new breed of black Republican has infiltrated the GOP with the intent to wield black influence over both the parties. They may agree with the Republican Party on taxes and other economic issues, but that's it! At their core they're dyed-in-the-wool liberal Democrats.

Unreal. I just don't understand the appeal of an organization over an idea. How intellectually vacant these people are.

If race is to be the reason to vote for a candidate then Obama will lose.

Can you imagine if a white person in a similar position even hinted at voting for a candidate because it was a "white pride moment"? That person would be castigated, labeled a "racist" and fired.

Repeat after me:

Only whites can be racist.
Only whites can be racist.
Only whites can be racist.
Only whites can be racist.
Only whites can be racist.
Only whites can be racist.
Only whites can be racist.
Only whites can be racist.
Only whites can be racist.

Got it? Blacks CANNOT be racist.

I wonder how many black democrats would vote for a black candidate if he / she would have an (R) behind the name. My bet would be ZERO.

Calvin Stephens, chairman of the African-American Republican Leadership Council in Texas, said that he's voting for Obama because this is a "black pride moment!"

Goes a long way towards explaining why we've never heard of the "African-American Republican Leadership Council". The scariest thing about this statement from a (doubtful) "Republican" is that he's voting for a skin color, not policies, ideas, ethics, morals, etc. that we should be seeking in a presidential caliber candidate.

We have seen way too much of this from the Dems this year. Dems were polarized to either vote for a skin color or a gender. Africa-American women were trapped in a quandry - vote for the skin or the gender.

This kind of thinking is what has gotten us to the point that we are today with a government that is irreparably broken with no remedy in sight!! America is deteriorating before our eyes because stupid people are voting for the wrong reasons. Martin Luther King must be spinning in his grave!!

Ok, Ok, OK!!! I hear ALLLLLLL of you. No, if it were Hillary I wouldn’t vote for her. Still! Burning our bras were not at ALL the same thing as what the blacks went through. I’m saying that this IS a historic election, that this IS the first time that there has been a viable black candidate and older blacks (like Armstrong) can remember being relegated to second class citizenry. I do NOT want Obama...believe me. I’d so much rather that this historical vote were for Micheal Steel or Ken Blackwell but yeah, just this one time I’d say I’d forgive a Black who pulled the lever for another Black. Sorry
(I’ve never been flamed before, it sucks : ))
