U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof, one of two Republicans running for governor, sent out an e-release this morning challenging rival “Sarah Steelman’s newfound commitment to repeal the state’s renewable fuel directive…”
Hulshof’s campaign contended that Steelman’s call to eliminate Missouri’s ethanol mandate could hike gas prices at a time when Missouri’s are the cheapest in the nation. (Many experts tie Missouri’s low price, in part, to our lower gas taxes.)

What happened? How come there's two Repubs running for the same seat??? Wasn't there ever a Primary Election, or is this a run-off??? Well no, it couldn't be a run-off between two Repubs... What's going on here? What am I missing?
Oh! And screw the Methanol Mandate!!!

Actually, Missouri is so conservative that we’ve passed a law to deport all Democrats.
(By which I mean, the primary election is August 5th.)

Hulshof and Steelman are running for the GOP nom, to face Dem AG Jay Nixon in November.
I haven't investigated enough yet to see which of the two I prefer. Any other Missourians know the pros and cons of Hulshof vs. Steelman?

Well, Charles... let me suggest you start your research by drinking in that candidate pictured in reply #4. Seriously, you could even consider becoming a mind numbed robot by gazing upon that countenance a little too long!!! Really!!!

Man...what’s the deal? First it’s Alaska’s governor, now this attractive lady shows up. Plus she falls on the same side of the ethanol debate as me. That settles it! If she can fog a mirror, she has my support (and my vote if I lived in MO)!

The promotion of biofuels, including Missouris ethanol mandate, is clearly working, Yea, but for whom? True, farmers are benefiting, but have you seen what's happened to grain prices? Factor in the impact on grain inputs all through the food supply chain and I'll bet the lower gas prices lose out to higher grain-derived products. If you insist on ethanol, she should push for switchgrass as the biomass, rather than corn. Ethanol from corn produces 1.18 units of energy output for every 1.0 units of input--only an 18% gain. The oil ratio is 10,000:1. For switchgrass, it's 800:1. My guess is that her opponent has some farmers in his back pocket who might be a little miffed if he studied the facts.

Call me crazy, but I am more concerned with the candidates’ relative conservatism and abilities than their looks.
To: kc8ukw
Steelman’s got quite a few strikes against her on personal behavior. Also took money from Stowers, which to any genuine prolifer is anathema. Third count against her is that she's a poor public speaker. Hulshof is conservative and pro-life to the bone, but has managed to win and keep a congressional seat in a very mixed district (9th) by walking softly on divisive issues (while voting 100% pro-life). Strong reputation for good ethics. Excellent speaker. He has the endorsements of almost all the elected Republicans in the state, which is a nice way of saying they know the wide differences between these candidates.
