And they used to say that “eating pork made you stupid”. Seems that tofu does about the same thing, or worse. Because of phytoestrogens, which form the basis of many sex hormones, the entire population is getting way too much estrogen in their diet as well, creating a mutant human being known as either feminists or metrosexuals, depending on the gender.

At least with eating pork, the genders were kept pretty straight.

Maybe all the soybean crop should be turned into biodiesel, rather than allowing it to be fed directly into the human diet. Feeding the high-protein soybean-oil meal to animals that are to be used for slaughter has not a thing to do with their sexual development or effects on the adult animal, as these animals are predominately slaughtered long before they have opportunity to reproduce.

Then we get to consume all the tasty beef, pork, chicken and turkey, as the creatures on the top of the food chain. The effects of the phytoestrogens are greatly mitigated by then.

Luckily, Ma Po Tofu contains pork so that counterbalances the ill effects of the tofu. Yin and yang kind of thing I guess.

Correlation is not causation.

Personally, I believe that dementia causes tofu eating.

Told you that anyone who eats curdled soy and says it tastes just like a juicy charcoal-broiled steak is crazy.

"...Because of phytoestrogens, which form the basis of many sex hormones, the entire population is getting way too much estrogen in their diet as well..."

Exactly, and what is it that is being used for infant formula all over the place? Soy. There are some who believe there is a correlation between all the soy formula being fed to babies and the decreasing age at which young girls are beginning to have periods and beginning to show development of breasts.

There is also some concern as to what damage these phytoestrogens in baby formula are doing to male babies, especially during their early development years.

Combine this with the fact that soy is in almost everything that is processed these days, and who knows? The studies don't get much publicity because "everyone knows that soy is good for you" (that's what we've been told for all these years). The one exception to the soy issue is soy sauce, but in that case, the soy goes through a fermentation process that changes the structure of the soy.

Not saying the science is all in or settled on this, but I try to avoid as much soy as possible, and I don't suffer any for lack of it.

Yep. Soy is supposed to be fed to pigs, and we’re supposed to eat the bacon, sausage and pork chops that results.

And that’s just breakfast...

Seriously, though, probably a reasonable amount of soy is OK, but if you eat it every day, I think it may have some effect. I wonder if they found any difference between the effects on, for instance, Japanese, who have eaten soy for some time, and European populations, who haven’t.

There’s an assumption that tofu is the cause of dementia, not that dementia involves developing a taste for tofu.

The list is compiled from postings that have appeared on Free Republic that I think would be suitable for the "Other things to worry about" list and are by no means an exhaustive list of all that you could worry about!

So, commence worrying or head out to lunch at your favorite Chinese restaurant and order a nice serving of Ma-Po Dou-fu over rice!
