Either this poll is flawed, or those who call themselves libertarians are very mistaken about what it is to be a libertarain. Both McCain and Obama are socailists, both love big government, both will expand government. However, the difference in scale is undisputable, Obama is clearly more anti-freedom than McCain. Not that either will get my vote. :)
I agree. The “libertarians” who support Obama are probably the same ones who supported Giuliani. Either they aren’t really for libertarian ideals, or they aren’t paying attention.
Well, how does the Reason crowd strike you today as opposed to years ago?
In Wisconsin there are several libertarian candidates for governor. One sounds like a socialist leading his libertarian opponent (I can't remember the name of either candidate) to question whether he knows what a true libertarian believes.
...or we Libertarians are being our usual contrary selves, and are not being completely honest with the pollsters. That has happened before.

A few years ago, I was having a discussion about politics with some extremely Left-leaning homeschool mothers, and they considered themselves "libertarians". I told them they were NOT libertarians; they were Democrats/Green Party/Michael Moore types. On a few issues, they held the libertarian position, but everyone is libertarian on one or two issues. People like them probably responded to this poll.
