Obama asks Americans to step up, volunteer COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.
Continuing to press the themes of values, faith and patriotism, Sen. Barack Obama exhorted Americans on Wednesday to volunteer for public service, pledging to dramatically expand opportunities for those accepting his challenge.
On a campaign swing that included visits to military bases, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee sought to emphasize his own love of country.
"Loving your country shouldn't just mean watching fireworks on the Fourth of July," he told a small audience at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. "Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it."
Throughout the week, Obama has been striving to win over voters in Republican areas, defending his patriotism in Independence, Mo., on Monday and pledging to expand federal aid to religious social-service groups in rural Ohio on Tuesday. He will speak about veterans in Fargo, N.D., today, then will highlight the theme of family Friday as he celebrates Independence Day in Butte, Mont., with his wife and two daughters.

I hope that the RNC and the McCain campaign explore the background between Obama's support for Raila Odinga and his muslim roots to sharia law. ----------------------------------------------- Obama asks Americans to step up, volunteer COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.

Prime Minister Odinga welcomes Peace Corps back to Kenya Submitted by SHNS on Thu, 06/19/2008 - 17:09. By DANIEL COLLINS, Scripps Howard News Service washington WASHINGTON -- Less than seven months after post-election violence wracked Kenya, Prime Minister Raila Odinga is now welcoming tourists and Peace Corps volunteers back to his country. "You have nothing to fear, because you're safer on the beaches of Kenya, more safer than you are on the (streets) of Chicago," Odinga said during a press conference Thursday in Washington announcing the Peace Corps' return. Violence ripped through Kenya following the December election between Odinga and incumbent President Mwai Kibaki. Odinga narrowly lost, inciting riots between the Kikuyus, Kibaki's tribe, and Odinga's, the Luos. "Kenyans were right on the edge of a great precipice, and looking down at an abyss," Odinga said of the mayhem. "One tried to pull the other down, but the other said, 'No, I'm not going down alone, I'm going to pull you down with me.' " Odinga became prime minister in April as part of a coalition government. The partnership was brokered by Kofi Annan, former U.N. secretary-general. Since then, the new Kenyan government has been attempting to repair strained relationships with Western allies. Odinga met Wednesday in Washington with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and also participated in a ceremony announcing the U.S.-Kenyan Open Skies agreement, allowing for direct flights between Nairobi and Washington, New York and Atlanta. Odinga said the deal will benefit tourism to Kenya and also expedite business transactions, building Kenya's power as a trading partner with the United States. "We don't need to come with baskets to beg," Odinga said. Odinga hopes that welcoming the Peace Corps back to his country will be one of the first steps to building international confidence in Kenya's security. The Peace Corps had a total of 144 volunteers in Kenya during the December election. As unrest grew, volunteers were consolidated in safe locations and then slowly transitioned out of the country. In February, the Peace Corps temporarily suspended its Kenyan program, moving its last 58 volunteers. "It was a very challenging and difficult decision for all of us to suspend the program," said Peace Corps Director Ronald Tschetter. "I'm delighted that it was a very short-term suspension." The first 24 Peace Corps volunteers to return arrived in Nairobi on June 10. They will work in the areas of public health, small-enterprise development and education. More than 40 more volunteers will arrive in November and a subsequent group of more than 30 public-health volunteers will arrive in June 2009. Tschetter said the Peace Corps is in preliminary discussions with the Kenyan government to expand its youth-related programming. Adrienne Potter, 26, finished a Peace Corps tour in Kenya in November, just before the election. Potter, who lives in Washington, said she's happy to see volunteers return to the country and is confident that they'll be safe. "The Peace Corps does not put you in a position that is hostile. They know the region very well," she said. (E-mail Daniel Collins at sintern(at)shns.com

Sorry Hussein, communes, collectives, mandatory, brownouts, putting US soldiers on trial isn’t my idea of “change”.
“Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it.”
Generations of liberals already changed it and ruined it.
....and volunteering doesn’t pay the “evil corporate bills” I have...
I admit I have not been following Obama’s life story that closely but where has he volunteered? I know he was a “community organizer” and has been on the boards of several foundations, but aren’t those paid positions? How much time has he contributed without a quid pro quo?
I'll do my part to change it by voting against this moonbat looney loser Hopey Changey.
Fifty years ago Americans did this until the government stepped in, taxed the snot out of families, forcing mothers to work to pay income taxes. Now there’s little time left for charitable work.
“The Peace Corps does not put you in a position that is hostile. They know the region very well,” she said.
Peace Corps fatalities as of 2003:

Casualties of Peace: ‘I don’t like living in fear,’ says University of Dayton graduate and Peace Corps volunteer Michelle Ervin, seen here riding a bus in the African country of Cape Verde. Assaults and danger are a common feature of life in the Peace Corps. Most of the Corps’ volunteers and most of its victims are young women.

And when people become THIS freaking STUPID and inattentive to their freedoms, THIS is the candidate they deserve.
1 minute satirical Obama video here:

Hurry before some diversity loving (RIGHT!) Obamaniac at YouTube pulls it.
Do you ever notice that when he talks about volunteering he never mentions the Military services. He is so anti-military. Pay attention the next time he mentions Volunteering.
Unhhh, that means there must be something about it that you don't love.
You’ve got that right! Income taxes went up, and mother’s had to go to work.
If the gubmint got out of health care and welfare, taxes could go down, mothers could stay home to raise their kids, everyone could afford good health care again, and Americans would have more time for charitable work.
But the gubmint’s globalist agenda would never permit that to happen. Destroy the church, destroy the family, thus destroy the country.
He doesn't understand that gainful, honorable work does that. Thats what entrepreneurs do, and the people who voluntarily work for them drawing a fair wage for their work.
You want to change the world for the better? Swing a hammer, fix a car, build a business, write a song, raise up a family of honorable and honest people. Doing what you do for free doesn't make it any more honorable. Doing what you do under government auspices doesn't make it any more honorable.
Free men do what they do because thats who they are. Government's job is to protect their right to do it.
Well, he helped with voter registration for the campaign of Carol Moseley Braun:
the watch word here, folks, is "MUST" - not 'should' =
In lawyer/dictator speak, that's not voluntary, but mandatory -
and so it will start - "for the good of the whole"
You want you children and grandchildren to live under Marxism?
Easy.
Just let him gain power...
