Reuters) - Poland has rejected a U.S. offer to boost its air defenses in return for basing a "missile shield" on Polish soil but remains open for further talks with Washington, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Friday.

Washington wants to place 10 missile interceptors in Poland and a tracking radar in the Czech Republic as part of global missile defenses it says will protect the United States and its allies from what it calls "rogue states" such as Iran.

In the negotiations, Tusk's centre-right government has sought billions of dollars worth of U.S. investment to upgrade air defenses in return for hosting the interceptors.

"We have not reached a satisfactory result on the issue of increasing the level of Polish security," Tusk told a news conference after studying the U.S. proposal.

Too bad Poland voted out the two conservative brothers and put this turkey into power. The way I would translate this is, “We want MORE.”

Well, if they want to stand against Putin on their own, good luck to them.

President Osama (Obama), Pelosi and Reid won’t follow through anyway. They’d rather have a US city nuked.

If Poland is so afraid of Russia, the Poles should just surrender to the Russians and leave us out of it. 50 years of Soviet domination wasn’t so bad, was it?

See post number 3.

Probably a lot of diplomacy is now in official campaign hiatus.

They're likely to share our worries about the obamassiah.

Some never learn. Hitler overran Poland in a short time. Apparently, the Poles are now worried about Putin and his thugs.

Sure. Ducks wouldn’t demand anything and would even cover a part of costs.

This is a GOOD THING!

Now if only the Czech Republic would opt out of this plan too. Iran nor Russia or anyone else is going to attack these countries.

Iran wouldn’t risk turning the EU on them.
Russia doesn’t need any oil or resources from the Czech Republic or Poland.
Germany is not going to invade these 2 countries - their birth rate is below replacement and their troops are fat according to news reports.

I don’t want more multi-culturalism and other leftist dung pumped into these countries by the likes of Clinton holdovers, Rhinos or an Obama Presidency.

When I visited the Czech Republic last year you could see especially in Prague that US liberals were already trying to change this country.

Imagine it’s 2010 and Obama is President. He’s got a foot hold into the small, conservative (for the most part)family loving Czech Republic and Poland via these agreements. He demands these 2 countries to fund his global social justice programs. He pressures them into following environmental initiatives, etc. Worse still he pressures these two countries (with below replacement fertility rates) into receiving hundreds of thousands of refugees and muslim immigrants who’ll breed like rabbits on Viagra.

Bravo Poland! Finally the Americans maybe will learn not to take Poles for granted...

The latest US offer was to offer the Patriot Missiles to Poles on rotating basis meaning being operational every other month... I hope the Poles countered with how bout we make your shield operational every other month also. (Lets play Russian Roullete)

You still demand visas from Poles to visit your country while our troops are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan..

Either you offer us what we want or you can take your stupid shield and place in Alaska or somewhere. Perhaps ask Musharraf he could helo you out, or go negotiate with Bangladesh

Nice liberal mindset you have there. Be careful what you wish for.

I say Luke is right on. I say we take our shield and go somewhere else.

After all, the Poles have shown that they can take care of themselves.

Poland is now ruled by the red. Although they call themselves “liberal” they are pro Russian an pro German lackeys in disguise.

On the election day many thought theirs was a solid right wing party, ready to transform Poland into a solid free market economy country.
The first few month of their rules have proved they've been neither pro market nor patriotic. The winning party, Civic Platform, started their rules with outrageous kowtowing to Moscow and Berlin and actually started to diminish Poland's friendly ties with America. The Shield is only a good example for that.

Make no mistake, if America was ready to meet their demands and pay, e.g. 1 billion dollars, they'd demand 2 billion, etc.

It's pointless to talk to those dishonorable guys who rule Poland these days. Every single poll shows the dramatic drop of their popularity all across the nation.
The people has actually seen them through and totally rejected in a runoff election a few weeks ago. Two major opposition parties which derive from the conservative pro-American Law & Justice party gained a landslide victory with more than 60% to some 25% for the ruling party.

Time, we need time only to get rid of those Kremlin lackeys from power in Poland. Just a question of time.

Quote in June from JoJo Gunn : “Personally, Poland gets my utmost respect for being an Ally, considering their size and from whence they came these last 70 years or so.”

I don’t understand why Poland is rejecting this - according to JoJo, they’re a stronger ally of the USA than Britain (even though the US DOD only allow Britan, Australia and Canada access to military integration secrets).

JoJo, what do you make of your favourite ally dissing the USA like this !!??

Actually - Polish government has not rejected the shield. They're just bargaining - like in business.

The shield in general is to protect the US territory - not Poland.
The Russians have already announced, that if the interceptors are placed in Poland, - they're going to aim their ABM at our country, and move their cruise missiles to Kaliningrad region.

So Polish government wants US to strenghten our air defense. One of the methods would be to station several batteries of the Patriot missiles in Poland.
But the Pentagon doesn't want to do so, as they're afraid it would piss the Russians off even more.

Instead - they offered one battery of the Patriots to be stationed in Poland, but for the period of 1 year only.
Which is something, that Polish government finds not enough.

Are you really so surprised we're trying to secure our national interest too? Not only yours?
