RALEIGH, N.C. North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley is being lauded by the nation's top teacher lobbying group as "America's Greatest Education Governor."
The National Education Association planned to give Easley an award Thursday during the group's annual meeting in Washington.
The NEA cites Easley for his "More at Four" program for at-risk preschool students and the "Learn and Earn" program, which allows high school students to graduate with a diploma and an associate's degree.
Easley also got the Legislature to create a program that allows students to finish college without debt.

Puh-lease! They left out the part about shamming through the lottery in the dead of night and calling it "education".

What a FRAUD! This from a guy who has stolen millions from the Highway Trust Fund to overpay for NC Education and now has given his wife a $170,000 state job in education.

If the NEA gave him an award he must be absolutely dreadful. It is synonymous with receiving and award from the ACLU.

He does what the NEA wants him to do, and they give him an award. Funny how that works.

Well, I guess that’s why he had the taxpayers funding his little trips to Europe. He was just studying ways to waste more money on bad education.

“his wife a $170,000 state job in education.”
Hey, they did a nationwide search and discovered that he was married to the perfect candidate. What are the odds?

Easley named 'America's Greatest Education Governor'
Let me rephrase that headline:
Weasley Earns Title of 'America's Most Corrupt Governor'
This is the same guy who appointed Mike Nifong as District Attorney in Durham County, and has now been discovered spending hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on expensive overseas trips, and giving his own wife a raise from her $90,000 job to $170,000.

Wow, to receive such an honor you must be dumping untold millions into unskilled and unneeded public school administrators’ pockets!!!!

I just heard that he had a personal Mercedes-Benz hired for 24/7 service during his overseas junkets.
In Germany, (to us average, ordinary pleeps), that would be considered a "CAB".
On a nine-day, $170,000 trip to Italy in April, the state paid $51,000 for daily chauffeur service in a Mercedes Class S sedan.
