The Arctic holds 100 billion barrels of oil in unexplored fields, a government geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey said Monday at an international oil industry gathering in Spain.
"The Arctic is almost completely unexplored," said Donald Gautier at the World Petroleum Congress in Madrid. "There are 100 billion barrels of oil to be found in the Arctic."
the underlying motivation behind much of the ‘flag-showing’ regarding the arctic by Russia, canada, and others (?) should be more obvious now.
FYI: Canada and some “others” are already there seismic exploring.
Drill there, Drill now !!!!!!!
Our green fascists and carbon nazis will make sure that only foreigners will get the benefit of Arctic oil.
Have you come across an article about the Canadians drilling in their National Park, right next to ANWR, from which they could suck Alaskan oil and sell it to us?
the parties you mention are, imho, indirectly funded by groups with far more pragmatic interests in US energy policy. I would suspect major oil exporters (middle eastern) in some fashion support both to a significant degree.
It provides pretextual cover for policies designed to benefit the funders, and hamstrings US policy in this area.
There is plenty of oil inside the Earth to last mankind 300, 400, 500 years.
We have the technology, let the free market work!
Yep they want to make sure that ANWR stays “Pristine”.
It will remain virgin arctic wilderness.
Open question for them - how many tourists go to ANWR to enjoy the great outdoors? Is ANWR even set up to accomodate visitors, or is it just empty land?
Does it make the enviros feel better to think that there is a piece of land in Alaska that won’t be developed? Does anyone feel better that the vast majority of Alaska is already undeveloped, and may never be developed?
Drill NOW. And while we’re at it let’s build some new refineries and a few dozen nuclear plants.
One reason Pelosi doesn’t want us to drill is because it may drop the price of gas to $2.00 a gallon. California Taxes by percentage, not by the gallon.
I have no doubt that foreign oil money finds its way into the pockets of our finest bought and paid for politicians and environmental pressure groups to make sure US oil stays off the market.
Don’t just ask who visits ANWR. Ask who visits the barren coastal plain, the only place considered for petroleum exploration.
Much of ANWR below the Brooks Range is beautiful, but the coastal plain is a barren land.
Thanks!
It is really interesting to read the FEC reports for folks like Pelosi and Reid.
But we can’t drill — Hairy Reed says it’ll make us sick.
Google “gull island”. The secret is getting out!
AKA GANG-GREEN!!!
GovernMental appointed and self annointed EnvironMental control freaks!!!
But it wouldn’t help for ten years, so we shouldn’t go there............../s
