An embarassment? Talk about a softball comment.

The country is a nightmare come true for all of it's residents.

A failure of the so-called black liberation movement.

Let the white folks emigrate to the US. They would make good Americans. The rest of Zimbabwe: you got what you demanded, so enjoy it.

Mugabe:

“Saint” Desmond Tutu called Mugabe “someone we were very proud of”, as he “did a fantastic job, and it’s such a great shame, because he had a wonderful legacy. If he had stepped down ten or so years ago he would be held in very, very high regard. And I still want to say we must honor him for the things that he did do, and just say what a shame.

Andrew Young: Still Defending Mugabe

Almost everybody in the West is now criticizing Robert Mugabe, and the
opprobrium has now gone as high as the next president of the United States
— that is, both candidates for the office — so the butcher of Zimbabwe will
barely have a friend anywhere. Except, to be sure, Andrew Young.

Young, with the soft voice and the doe eyes, long ago turned into a cash
carnivore, fronting for Africa’s tyrants in corporate board rooms and
congressional offices. Once an idealist and aide to Martin Luther King
Jr., he began to be a cynic-supporter for the terrorizers of the world when
he picked the cause of Yassir Arafat, long before Jimmy Carter did. Now
— like Thabo Mbeki, the great AIDS expert to whom hundreds of thousands of
South Africans owe their deaths — Young is defends the despoiler of
Zimbabwe.

Pay them like we did when they went into Somalia and kicked butt. This time we ought to send them some food...I hear 5 million are on the verge of starving.

Why shouldn't the oppressed do it themselves? Why should Ethiopians die for those who won't fight for themselves?

“Why shouldn’t the oppressed do it themselves? Why should Ethiopians die for those who won’t fight for themselves? “

Ethopia should presumably act in its own interests, which may or may not include invading zimbabwe, and would certainly include how much we paid them.

As far as the oppressed doing it themselves, it is nearly impossible to unseat a ruling dictator with control of the military. I do not understand where you expect arms to come from, or who will protect families of the insurgents (they are fair game), or who will be allowed the time to organize and train them in a police state like zimbabwe. None of the above needs seems to relate to current reality.

I have seen this attitude from time to time on fr, and I do not agree. A sitting dictator who can pay his army isn’t going anywhere, no matter how much his serfs squeal.

Vague comments with no substance notwithstanding, I still do not agree.
