Unless, of course, they're psychos. Except those posters who are perfect. We are fortunate that they grace us with their presence.

If applying common sense to a situation where none existed before makes me different, then I guess I am different.

You should have sympathy because paying for trespassing at an amusement park is a steep penalty. You should have sympathy because he has a deeply grieving family that has lost a beloved son in a tragic, awful accident. You should have sympathy because leaders of that church will probably second guess themselves for the rest of their lives about their supervision, despite the fact that they did nothing wrong. You should have sympathy because we all walk this earth together, my friend, and face its cruelties on a daily basis. Lastly, you should have sympathy because when your time comes, do you want to know that people thought of you with warmth and with affection, or that they laughed at your demise?Sorry, I will not react in the typical "poor wittle boy" was killed manner so prevalent here. He was SEVENTEEN and tresspassing in a roller coaster operating area. This was foreseeable and avoidable where he is concerned. I do feel sympathy for the leaders of the church that will second guess their supervision practices. But as you said, they did nothing wrong. The young MAN (not boy as the title calls him) is totally responsible for this incident.

Bad decisions are made all the time. No sympathy for the family of a decapitated son at a Church outing eh? What great class and human spirit you must possess. This was not a 'bad' decision. It was a stupid decision that cost him his life. I am glad that no one else was physically injured by this guys 'bad' decision. That would have been a true tragedy. Unlike you, I will not comment on your class or lack thereof.

I imagine when you were 17 you never did anything stupid that could have resulted in a tragedy for your family or others. Too bad the rest of the world isn't as perfect as you /sarcWhen I was 17, or any age before or after for that matter, I never made a decision that caused my head to be removed from my body. Whether that makes me smarter, luckier, more cautious or blessed, I will take it.

I think we should be sympathetic because we have all done profoundly stupid things in our lifetimes, and outside the grace of God we would be just as dead. Also, these are teen boys, the most notorious dumb-thing-doers. I would feel sympathetic if someone was killed due to actions beyond their control. If the roller coaster came flying off the tracks and landed on this young man, I would feel completely different. I cannot, however, feel sympathy for ignorance, fatal or not.

But have you never been ignorant?
Has no one you loved ever been ignorant?
Is sympathy only for the perfect?

I agree. And I can say with all confidence that I never ignored multiple warning signs as I climbed two security gates to enter into a restricted area. And I even went to public schools!
Some heads are gonna roll over this case.
