A nice victory for Steyn and free-speech. These "Human Rights" Commissions are star-chambers that should be abolished.

IIRC, this makes Steyn and Amiel the only people brought before the CHRC to ever not be found guilty.

We’ll break out the bubbly (Sparkling Apple Cider) and pork products tonight! Congratulations to the defenders of free speech & truth! Cheers for Mark Steyn!

Outstanding! Sad, though, that we're so happy for an outcome that should have been a no-brainer. I guess they wanted to clear the decks at the CHRC to take on that lesbian-baiting comedian.

Apparently, you’ve got to hire a lawyer and go to court in order to exercise your right of “free” speech in Canada.

The ruling means the CHRC does not want its Stalinism exposed to the light of day.

Whoops, pays to read carefully ...
The third was heard this month by a British Columbia tribunal, which is now deliberating.

They(the commission)couldn’t take the heat could they? I think Mark is the only one that ever beat these idiots and he is probably the most famous also.

Canada is a horrible, broken country that probably can not be fixed on this issue. This supposedly good news contains this amazing statement "a recent order of the Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission that a pastor refrain from "disparaging" comments about homosexuals in his internet postings and private emails. "
The Government in Canada is now telling people what they and cannot say in private communication. Not since the heyday of Communism has the state interjected itself is such a way.
How very, very sad for Canada and Canadians.

We enthusiastically support those parliamentarians who are calling for legislative review of the commissions with regard to speech issues."I have an idea for a way they could solve this.
Parliament shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

It is being seen by conservatives here as a bitter victory.
Clearly the CHRC wimped out because they were up against the national media and Macleans, which has big pockets. It won't stop them for stepping on individuals who can't afford to defend themselves. They are also hoping the heat will now come off them. There is a RCMP investigation, a private member's bill to remove Section 13, and the threat of a Parliamentary Inquiry.
So they are hoping their defenders can say “see, all this worry was paranoia, so lets drop the Inquiry”
