In a move that wasn't entirely unexpected, presumptive GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain endorsed Thursday the controversial California Marriage Protection Act initiative expected to go before the state's voters this November.
In an e-mail received by the ProtectMarriage.com campaign McCain issued the following statement:
"I support the efforts of the people of California to recognize marriage as a unique institution between a man and a woman, just as we did in my home state of Arizona," McCain said in a message widely distributed via PRNewswire. "I do not believe judges should be making these decisions."
Commenting on the endorsement, ProtectMarriage.com Chairman Ron Prentice said:
"Sen. McCain's position will be an important factor to millions of Californians. (He) has articulated a key feature of the initiative campaign, which is that voters and not judges should be determining this issue."
McCain's endorsement comes on the heels of the California Supreme Court's May 15 ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in the state.
The measure, which would amend the state's constitution if passed, is expected to be one of the most-watched initiatives on the state's November ballot.
“I applaud McCain for finally taking a stand on this issue and opposing the activist judges in California. “
One of which is into bestial porn evidently.
This is an outrageous slap in the face to the #1 purveyors of human disease (ie male homosexuals) on the planet. Homophobia lives while homophilia is suffering greatly. Gag, cough, choke, puke!!!!!!!!!
Kudos to him for not stepping across the aisle to the Gub’s side on this as well as the offshore oil drilling issue.
More than anything, he could come thru with SC justices that move the court further right.. or not. We know what the alternative is..
Now if he would back off his comprehensive immigration and campaign finance reforms .. I and many others wouldn’t need the clothespin.
They call it controversial but the truth is the vast majority of Californians(the legal ones that is)support traditional marriage. We voted on it once only to have it overturned by the frickin’ courts. Nothing controversial about it, except for the fact CA politicians don’t want California citizens to run their own state.
In the past, McCain has tried to hedge his bets. He had said that he was opposed to same-sex marriage, but wasn’t sure if a constitutional amendment was needed or the best way to keep marriage as 1 man 1 woman.
In California, since the judges have overtuned the laws defining marriage, the only way to accomplish keeping marriage as 1 man 1 woman is a constitutional amendment.
I’ve heard others say (before the court decision) that an amendment isn’t needed, the law already defines marriage, etc. But if judges are willing to overturn established law, then the only way to keep the traditional definition of marriage is through a constitutional amendment. It should happen at the federal level too.
Keep in mind that all of these same-sex couples are single under federal law. A federal court lawsuit on this subject is inevitable.
Regardless of how you stand on the issue, this is reason enough to support the ammendment to the constitution.
Anyone know how soon until we can throw the renegade justices out of office?
Now if McCain’s lamo media team can get some traction out of this....no excuses from them either about how the MSM is just a bunch of poopoop heads.....note to McCain media team get to work or get out...
Does this mean he is going to lose the fag vote??
“he could come thru with SC justices that move the court further right.. or not.”
With the dims in firm control of the Senate, I’d be leaning towards “not.”
Yeah, isn't it funny how the MSM with brand conservative issues like this? I could be wrong, but I haven't once seen the Supreme Court's unprecedented, leftist decision to mandate same-sex marriage called "controversial."
And Mrs. Obama promises that Barack will repeal the Defense of Marriage Act.
