Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) is winning the race against Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in battleground states. A new Quinnipiac/WSJ/WP poll said on Thursday that the freshman senator leads from five to as much as 17 points among voters in four key states.
Obama narrowly has the support of voters in Colorado, where he leads McCain 49% to 44%. The Republican, however, has the edge among men, 50% to 45%, and whites, 47%to 46%.
In Michigan, Obama wins with 48% while McCain trails with 42%. The Illinois senator has a whopping lead among women, 52% to 38%, and African-Americans, 89% to 6%. But again McCain leads among whites, 48% to 42%, and men, 46% and 45%.
Minnesota voters also chose Obama over McCain, 52% to 39%. Obama's 17-point lead is the biggest among the four states, and is due to his overwhelming support among nearly all demographics. The freshman senator beats McCain even among whites, 49% to 42%, and men, 51% to 40%.
The picture in Wisconsin for McCain is not much different. The Arizona senator trails his rival, 39% to 52%.
"Sen. McCain's lead among white voters in Colorado and Michigan cuts the gap to single digits, but doesn't offset Sen. Obama's strength among other groups. The Democrat also leads by eight to 21 percentage points among independent voters in each state," Quinnipiac University said in a release.
"But Sen. Obama should not be picking out the drapes for the Oval Office just yet. His lead nationally, and double digits in some key states, is not hugely different from where Sen. John Kerry stood four years ago at this point in the campaign," Quinnipiac University Polling Institute Assistant Director Peter Brown added.
NO , the radical left will control the WH , Congress, and the Courts and all the federal agencies . They will change the laws and rewrite everything in insure they stay in power. Its happened in every single country in similar circumstances, look at Venezuela,Spain, . The key is changing the voters id requirements and letting 20-30 million illegals get the vote in the next two years . Good by USA. The other key is shutting down Talk radio and the new media such as this website using new FCC regulations. Control the masses using the old Media who will have there monopoly back and they are all Obama drones . The Obama left plans to stay in power.Soros and the Obama other puppet masters have been planning this for years .
YES, I think we will have much less danger with McCain and much more of a chance to promote conservative principles.
Are you honestly aware of how quickly Obama can damage this nation in a number of areas?
Yep!
I hope you’re right, but I’m not holding my breath. I hope Coleman beats Franken, that to me is the best result we can hope for in MN.
Thanks for the logical post. My first post was a knee jerk response. Most posts on this thread discount that poll, and are quite encouraging. I’m better now.
(and awake). :`)
“Yes, people will be furious and will convert to conservatism, hurting liberalism for a generation. They’ve forgotten what it was like.”
You’re living in the past. Check out the statistics regarding the numbers of Americans who now prefer the government to GIVE them their needs....and wants.
Did you know that for the 1980 election, Reagan was polling so badly against Carter that the GOP was trying to get Ford to run again?
For the first time in my life I am really ashamed of so many Americans who obviously hsve no brain.
In 1988 Dukakis was 18 points ahead before decided to test drive a tank.
How about posting the numbers for 1992 and 1996?
No, you fail to see the disatrous after effects on the economy and life which will be near instanteous with gaining control of all these things. Things are bad enough they will metastize quickly into national ruin. Sort of like the RMS Titanic disaster. The Rats will not survive as they will be blamed and bear the brunt. Soros and the liberals are headed towards their doom.
Two things happen in this early polling:
1. clowns who are high or watching Oprah on election day are polled, but won’t vote.
2. people wallow in populist rhetoric, think they are giving GOP authority figures a spanking, believe the grass is always greener in the lawn you haven’t planted— and love to tell phone pollsters that they are going to vote Democrat, FOR THE PEOPLE!
When the chips are down, only a few things really motivate people to vote.
As Hunter S. Thompson said regarding the youth vote not coming out for Kerry: “Yeah, we rocked the vote all right. Those little bastards betrayed us again.”
Correct. Let me add to this. Any conservative that will not vote for McCain is a stinking liberal. I don't agree with all that McCain is, but not to understand the what this Country will become with OOOBBBAAAMMMAAA and a total anti Constitutional bunch of nitwits is enough for me.
Are you kidding or just not thinking?
I believe a McCain loss to Obama will NOT be interpreted by the RNC as a need to nominate a more conservative candidate (which is not the job of the RNC but the job of republican voters); but instead will be interpreted as that the “mood of the nation” was towards the left. If McCain loses look to see even LESS conservative candidates to be backed by the RNC desperately looking for that winning “middle ground”.
