CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Police have been ordered by the mayor to do "whatever it takes" to arrest three suspected teenage killers.
The three, who are thought to be about 15 to 17 years old, are wanted for the beating death of Anthony Waters.
Waters, 42, was taking a walk down East 55th Street Wednesday night when he was robbed and severely beaten by a gang of teenagers.
"This case should have people incensed enough they want to come forward with information," said Third District Police Commander Calvin Williams, who stood across the street from the area where Waters was beaten.
"The pack mentality going on in the city of Cleveland must end," Williams announced. "The mayor told us to take the gloves off."
Waters' beating was captured on video cameras mounted on the nearby G&M Towing Company. Police are trying to enhance the video which they say shows Waters trying to defend himself against the trio of attackers.
The victim staggered into the company lot and was helped by employees. One G&M employee got into a truck and chased the attackers north on East 55th, but lost them around the I-490 intersection.
"We have several pieces of evidence," Williams told a news conference, "and we're well on our way to solving this crime. We need these youngsters to turn themselves in."
Cleveland Police Lt. Thomas Stacho said a number of cars traveling on East 55th slowed down to watch the attack, but none of them stopped. He urged anyone with information to call Cleveland Police.
The young attackers were described as black teenagers possibly as young as 13 or as old as 18. Stacho estimated their ages at between 15 and 17. He said one was riding a silver BMX bike and was wearing plaid shorts.
The second suspected attacker was wearing blue jean shorts and stood about 5-foot-6 and weighed about 190-200 pounds. The third was described as wearing a white t-shirt and a white baseball cap.
Waters initially told EMS he did not need medical assistance but his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center where he later died. The coroner says Waters' spleen was ruptured and several ribs were broken. He also suffered a blow to the head.
Waters was said to be homeless according to his family. His sister Marlo Massey tells Channel 3 News Waters had no money.
"But to beat him the way that they did. I viewed the body. I got to see him, my mother didn't," Massey said.
"And it was just horrifying the way he looked. They beat him to death and I just can't stop thinking what was on his mind while it was happening."
The victim was white.
Cleveland has another case of black "yutes" beating a white man.
Some forces out there actually want to take gun rights away so we can’t protect ourselves from these monsters and thugs.
I'm sure this crime will get national media attention for the next week or so.
Including, but not limited to, the city of Cleveland.
Well they will play he** doing it now after yesterdays decision by the Supreme court. We still have a long fight to get more of the restrictions on firearms lifted but the NRA and others are already filing more law suits to do just that.
Lots of people know who did this. No one wants to be a snitch.
If circumstances were reversed this would be a national crisis now. Everyone from GWB on down, including his would-be successors of course, would be preaching to us about ending violence and hate, etc etc.
In the other case, there were six “yutes” in that pack. They were dumb enough to turn down a plea bargain. Perhaps they’re betting on a OJ~esque jury.
For men as old as this to be so naive is astounding! But then again, they are from MA where real men are in short supply.

If it can be proven that someone knew but did not "snitch" there should be a cell waitng for them on a charge of aiding and abetting.
If and when the bastards are caught, expect their mamas and the community activists to rally around the children.
I don’t think race has much to do with it these days among the youth. White, Black, or Brown, they’ve all become pumped full of self importance and selfish expression from the time they start preschool. Couple that with not being disciplined properly from parents and you have animals and not people at this juncture.
In what world would it ever be deemed acceptable to act in this manner? I spend my entire day it seems combating this whenever my kids come home from school. From the Hip Hop Rap crap to mistaking rudeness for humor. For now I’m winning this battle in my home. But what about when my kids hit their teen years? I wish I could afford a good private school or had the abilitiy to home school my children. I wish the ACLU could be sued for making this whole nightmare with our children a reality. And if wishes were horses......
I wouldn’t drive down East 55th at night, let alone walk.

Last Saturday, the lady that works with me picked up us some lunch at the Wendy’s on the corner of 55th. Just prior to her getting there, the store was robbed by gunpoint.
My Cousin was murdered in that same area. Last time I went down to Victory White Metal, I had 4 guys come up to me at a stoplight tryin’ to sell crack. I ran the redlight!
