"On the death penalty, Mr. Obama wrote in his memoir, The Audacity of Hope, (Crown, 2007), that the penalty does little to deter crime. But he added that society has the right to express outrage at heinous crimes. During his 2004 Senate campaign, he publicly supported the death penalty, even as he called the justice system flawed and urged a moratorium on executions."
"Mr. Obama is an introspective candidate, and perhaps the best analyst of his own political style. I serve as a blank screen, he wrote in The Audacity of Hope, on which people of vastly different political stripes project their own views. "

Blank screen!
That’s a good one.
Hey everyone! Let’s elect a “blank screen” to the most powerful position in the world!!!
And I never read his book!
A blank screen with an empty suit projected on it.
Heh!
The emperor wannabe has no clothes.
Oops!!!! Guess we’re all wondering the same thing!!!
If all obama sells is a blank screen, I want my money back.
Ooooooooo, did you give money to the fake messiah??? Ooooooo....
Outstanding article by Michael Powell. A tabula rasa makes it easier for the propagandists to create a candidate.
Each propagandist has one of these in his pocket for the Etch-a-Sketch candidate.

It’s how stuff works these days./sarcasm
Think about that: He “supports” the death penalty and also supports a “moratorium” on executions.
He opposed guns, but supports throwing out the DC Gun ban.
He opposes abortion, but opposes laws protecting born babies if their mother tried to abort them.
He says stuff, people THINK they know what he means, the press stops asking questions, and months later he’s on the opposite side, and the press doesn’t see him actually lying, it’s just they didn’t ask the right questions.
He was going to work hard with his opponent to ensure public funding for the general election. Now he isn’t, and not only did the press accept his lame argument for the most part, nobody even points out that he never even tried to WORK WITH HIS OPPONENT before making his decision.
Get it? It’s not just that he went back on his word to take public money, since he never actually said he would take the money — it’s that he promised he would work with his opponent, and he didn’t.
Funny how we can see him for the blank screen he is. All you do is look past his BS and WHAM! There is it.
Simple....
Revelation 13Barack Obama is the Antichrist.3. .... And all the earth was in admiration after the beast.
4. .... And they adored the beast, saying: Who is like to the beast? And who shall be able to fight with him?
5. And there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies: and power was given to him to do, two and forty months.
6. And he opened his mouth unto blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name and his tabernacle and them that dwell in heaven.
7. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And power was given him over every tribe and people and tongue and nation.
8. And all that dwell upon the earth adored him, ....
14. And he seduced them that dwell on the earth,

I semi-agree with Obama on this - but for a likely very different reason.
The death penalty, as applied here does little to deter crime because there is no immediacy to it. The average, the best I can calculate, from crime to execution is between 10-12 years.
With technology and efficient prosecution, I just don't understand why it takes so long. While I am a firm believer in the value of life, I also believe someone can surrender that value by intentionally taking another person's life or in violently sexually assaulting young children. But when you can sit in prison on "death row" for over a decade doing basically nothing, while some lawyers play it out in court over and over, appealing every angle and even making up angles, then I see a problem.
I can think of zero legitimate reasons for such incredible delays in the appeals process, and I do believe there should be at least some level of appeal available. Then again - why are appeals automatic (under law, if I am not mistaken) when someone is sentenced to death?
Bring back the gallows on the courtyard lawn and swiftly hang these violent people in a reasonable time after their conviction and it will make a much greater impact.
