After a 2007 polar meltdown that sparked global concern, experts say the stage is set for another record-setting retreat of Arctic Ocean ice - with a top Canadian climate scientist already bracing for the once-unthinkable: open water at the North Pole.
"The North Pole may be free of ice for the first time in history," University of Manitoba polar specialist David Barber told Canwest News Service on Monday.

From BBC News [yr: 2004]:
"A new [2004] analysis shows that the Sun is more active now than it has been at anytime in the previous 1,000 years. Scientists based at the Institute for Astronomy in Zurich used ice cores from Greenland to construct a picture of our star's activity in the past. They say that over the last century the number of sunspots rose at the same time that the Earth's climate became steadily warmer."..."In particular, it has been noted that between about 1645 and 1715, few sunspots were seen on the Sun's surface. This period is called the Maunder Minimum after the English astronomer who studied it. It coincided with a spell of prolonged cold weather often referred to as the "Little Ice Age". Solar scientists strongly suspect there is a link between the two events - but the exact mechanism remains elusive."

It's really hard to imagine how this little ball of fire could have any impact on our climate at all.
But the main arguments being made for a solar-climate connection is not so much to do with the heat of the Sun but rather with its magnetic cycles. When the Sun is more magnetically active (typically around the peak of the 11 year sunspot cycle --we are a few yrs away at the moment), the Sun's magnetic field is better able to deflect away incoming galactic cosmic rays (highly energetic charged particles coming from outside the solar system). The GCRs are thought to help in the formation of low-level cumulus clouds -the type of clouds that BLOCK sunlight and help cool the Earth. So when the Sun's MF is acting up (not like now), less GCRs reach the Earth's atmosphere, less low level sunlight-blocking clouds form, and more sunlight gets through to warm the Earth's surface...naturally. Clouds are basically made up of tiny water droplets. When minute particles in the atmosphere become ionized by incoming GCRs they become very 'attractive' to water molecules, in a purely chemical sense of the word. The process by which the Sun's increased magnetic field would deflect incoming cosmic rays is very similar to the way magnetic fields steer electrons in a cathode ray tube or electrons and other charged particles around the ring of a subatomic particle accelerator.-ETL

There's a relatively new book out on the subject titled The Chilling Stars. It's written by one of the top scientists advancing the theory (Henrik Svensmark).
And here is the website for the place where he does his research:
2008: "The Center for Sun-Climate Research at the DNSC investigates the connection between variations in the intensity of cosmic rays and climatic changes on Earth. This field of research has been given the name 'cosmoclimatology'"..."Cosmic ray intensities and therefore cloudiness keep changing because the Sun's magnetic field varies in its ability to repel cosmic rays coming from the Galaxy, before they can reach the Earth." :

100,000-Year Climate Pattern Linked To Sun's Magnetic Cycles:
ScienceDaily (Jun. 7, 2002) HANOVER, N.H.
Thanks to new calculations by a Dartmouth geochemist, scientists are now looking at the earth's climate history in a new light. Mukul Sharma, Assistant Professor of Earth Sciences at Dartmouth, examined existing sets of geophysical data and noticed something remarkable: the sun's magnetic activity is varying in 100,000-year cycles, a much longer time span than previously thought, and this solar activity, in turn, may likely cause the 100,000-year climate cycles on earth. This research helps scientists understand past climate trends and prepare for future ones.

Excellent site!
This outa get Gore’s fat ass back in the public spotlight spreading his Doomsday message. Any body wanta take bets on how soon?
I dont have to read it. The Ocean is a great carbon sink and it absorbs C02 and releases Co2 depending on temp.
A cold soda holds fizzy Co2 and a warm soda goes flat.
I think a warm climate releases c02 and c02 causes cooling(not warming..The record shows this..)
Then the ocean absorbs more Co2. Its a huge regulator.
What gets me about all this shtt is that the very folks that say we cant build a fence on the border believe they can control climate.
Maybe we dont control the planet, maybe there are things bigger than us.
That’s what I think a reasonable person would wonder. If “all” of the Arctic Ocean ice goes away this summmer, shouldn’t our coasts be completely inundated?
I’m Glad Glassman doesn’t ignore the Sun
My son is a documentary film director and spent three months on the Greenland Ice Cap a little over a year ago. THE ICE CAP IS TWO MILES THICK (it’s still there). That documentary was on the Discovery Channel in this country.
Then according to the old Boer prophet Nicolaas van Rensburg (watch the program on him posted on Youtube who said among other things that the Boers would regain their freedom “when the ice starts melting”): the independence of the Boer Republics is just around the corner.
Ask the Son. What happened to the earth when the ice in Greenland did melt?
Was it the end of the World? Or was it a time of expansion for humanity? Was there less progress or more?
“This Notion” as obama would say is silly.
Warmer climates result in more agriculture and food and free trade due to open seas.
Eric The Red didn’t find America sitting in a frozen cave starving because there were no crops
Obama says: If we drill for oil, the world will be permanently and “irreparably” damaged..
What a load of BS we have been drilling for over 100 years.
Is the Earth Dead?
So that evidently means that it wasn't ice free in the Medieval Warming Period when Greenland was called "Vineland" cause the Lief Erickson and his buddies were growing grapes there?
"How do They Know"
from the Windows to the World website....
According to some archaeologists, the Vikings may have been better able to explore and colonize many areas in Northern Europe while the climate was relatively warm during the Medieval Warm Period because there was less sea ice. They traveled by boats to Greenland among other places through seas that would later become blocked by sea ice during the Little Ice Age.
I would add, that tapping what God gave us resulted in unprecedented expansion of good things for humanity.
I will give credit to the anti energy types when they give up their Mac G5’s and limos and private jet planes.(hypocrites)
Till then they can piss off and dont get me started on carbon TAXES
FACT #2: It has just as likely happened to this degree in the past that Sea Ice from the North Pole Region melted as much or even MORE...we are simply witnessing it.
FACT#3: Water Vapor controls over 90% of how much this planet retains heat so we are being led to believe that Mans involvement in less than 5% of the remainder is causing all of this by people who want YOU to remain STUPID so they can CONTROL things towards their world view.
Thanks for the links Aussiebabe.
Maybe that reason why I seen Polar bear with looter guy
Also Looter guy beat up Islamic rage boy seal
You are welcome.
Great news; shipping will be much easier this summer through that region!!!
I never did like ice
