This is still a center-right country. Obama cannot win with just the moonbats and liberals.

Pretty much happens every election. nearly all candidates have to run to the extremes because that is where the True Believers are, both right and left; the ones who make calls and bring people to the polls, give money, etc
.
Then once they get the nomination both race to the center where most of the voters are.

There are probably an exactly equal number of people on FR who fall into the categories of ‘hold my nose and vote for the sellout’ as there are on DU. One can loath McCain and yet see what a difference ONE supreme court justice makes; for everyone reading the preceding sentence and agreeing there is probably somebody saying the same thing except in reference to Obama.

Noting new here.

The few exceptions that come to mind are Ike, being so extremely popular he did not need ‘the base’, Reagan (although less so) due to massive charisma and impeccable credentials to the base and some incumbents.

The character “Kingfish” on the old Amos ‘n’ Andy show comes to mind.

Only with the “Kingfish”, larceny was just funny. This Obama fellow is as serious as a heart attack.

I predict that Obama will, before the election, come out in favor of drilling offshore and in ANWR.

I heard that Allen West will be giving a speech addressing Obama and the use of “race” in politics. The GO WEST campaign will be videotaping the speech and it should be released sometime next week.

Obama is just a politician. He is not a "Post Racial Messiah" or any other kind of Messiah. The left smells blood. Very little Obama could do would turn them away. They WILL make noises like the will vote elsewhere or stay home but in the end they will follow along.

I’m not against pols changing positions when the facts change. What makes a pol a hypocrite (and there are more than a few on the Republican side too) is changing positions just to get votes. Obviously McCain’s flip-flop on offshore drilling was such a move. But it was the correct one. However McCain is closely scrutinized and criticized by the right-wingers who want to put his feet to the fire. The lefties however will take whatever humiliation Obama stuffs down their throats and utter nary a peep.

Beware Charles Krauthammer...on Fox last night he asserted that Stevens in the dissent was correct. Krauthammer is also on record for a right to an abortion.

Interesting that he sees no right to life spelled out in the Constitution, and that he sees no right to bear arms in the Constitution. They are, in fact, both explicitly stated.

The right to bear arms is, when one thinks about it, an extension of the right to life.
