A man jailed in Mexicali on suspicion of running down a Border Patrol agent in January, killing him, has been released without charges, it was reported yesterday.
The Attorney General's Office in Baja California confirmed to The Associated Press that Jesús Navarro Montes had been released from a Mexicali jail. No explanation for his release was given.
Navarro was arrested Jan. 22 by Mexican authorities. He was accused of driving a Hummer carrying drugs on Jan. 19 near Yuma, Ariz. Border Patrol Agent Luis Aguilar was placing spike strips on a road to stop the Hummer and a second vehicle when he was struck and killed, Border Patrol authorities said.
Mexican authorities alleged Navarro kept going, crossed into Mexico and gave the Hummer to accomplices.
Mike Cutler forwarded an article about this and has this to say.
The brief news article I have attached below provides graphic evidence of why it is all but impossible for the United States to enter into a working relationship with the officials of the Mexican government.
The notorious Zetas are members of Mexican law enforcement and the military who benefited from receiving training and supplies enable them to combat narcotics trafficking from our government who put their tactical training to use by working for the very same drug cartels they were supposed to combat! Today the Zetas are actually competing with the drug cartels for control of the lucrative drug trade. This competition is, in large measure, responsible for the extreme escalation in violence in Mexico and especially along the US / Mexican border. Since Mexican President Calderón took office, more than 4,000 people have been killed in Mexico as a result of that violence that has been spilling across our border with Mexico.
Last year, President Bush and Mexican President Calderón created the Merida Initiative, a program intended to bolster Mexicos crackdown on drug and criminal rings. Under this program our governments would purchase equipment and provide training in the U.S. to help Mexican law enforcement intercept trafficked drugs, arms, cash, and persons. This plan emphasizes training to strengthen judicial systems, law enforcement, and witness protection programs. The initiative would also incorporate technology to improve and secure communications systems to better collect information.
This raises the extremely serious question as to how our government will prevent a repeat of the disaster that resulted in the creation of the Zetas. Throwing money and training at a corrupt government will undoubtedly run the risk of further undermining our efforts that are designed to combat corruption and violence if the money and training is funneled into those whose ultimate goal is to learn our tactics, steal the weapons and other equipment and benefit from our intelligence for nefarious purposes.
I fear that providing money and training to the Mexican authorities may be comparable to providing "protection money" to Tony Soprano and his cohorts!
That a judge would release the alleged killer of a United States Border Patrol agent is an outrage that is emblematic of the challenges we face in dealing with a corrupt government. The release of the murderer of our Border Patrol agent, however, will probably go all but unnoticed by our politicians who have established an agenda of doing whatever it takes to entice ever more Mexican citizens and citizens of other countries to enter our country in violation of law to provide cheap labor for those who make the deep-pocketed campaign contributions.
You really have to wonder how any Border Patrol agent goes to work each day when you consider the drastic increase in violence along the Mexican Border and the fact that Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean have already had more than a year of their lives stolen from them by their unjust prosecution for protecting a border that apparently our politicians and the politicians of Mexico want left wide open!
Today I listened to Senator Barack Obama talk about the need to provide universal health care and improved education for our children. The senator has advocated legalizing all of the illegal aliens in our country and placing them on the path to United States citizenship.
Because there is no way of knowing who these millions of aliens are, we have no way of knowing their true identities, their true nationalities or their criminal histories or their potential affiliation with criminal or terrorist organizations. We also don't know how, where or when they entered the United States. This means that given the situation along our borders, should our nation be insane to the point of creating the sort of amnesty program advocated by both Senators Obama and McCain, there would be no way to turn anyone away who shows up at an immigration office seeking to participate in such a program.
Back in the early 1980's when Senator Ted Kennedy advocated the disastrous amnesty program of 1986 he said that this "one time program" would involve some 1.1 million aliens. In point of fact, nearly 4 million illegal aliens availed themselves of the opportunity to participate in the program including a number of terrorists. It has been suggested that there were two reasons that nearly four times as many aliens participated in the program than had been originally estimated. First of all, there may have been an undercounting of the number of aliens who were present in the United States in violation of law. More significantly, however, was the fact that many illegal aliens simply entered the United States long after the deadline for being eligible for participation and there was no way of investigating the four million applications.
Today it is estimated that from 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens live in the United States. If history repeats itself, then it should be anticipated that if our politicians ram an amnesty program down our throats, that some 40 million illegal aliens will show up on our doorstep seeking United States citizenship!
We won't know anything about them other than what they tell us about themselves!
Senator's stated goal of providing education and health care for our people is a worthwhile goal, however, how many illegal aliens would such a program entice to run our borders and take advantage of such an opportunity?
How much would this ultimately cost our nation?
Meanwhile criminals and terrorists would, no doubt, also avail themselves of what they would have to see as an irresistible opportunity to acquire lawful status in our country under an assumed identity. The much vaunted "security check" will simply require that each alien applicant's name and fingerprints be run through a database. Fictitious names would, obviously, disclose no relating record and any alien who had managed to not get arrested in our country would be approved through this fatally flawed system.
Meanwhile, alien smugglers such as Jesus Navarro Montes, the murder suspect in the death of United States Border Patrol Agent Luis Aguilar, have to be emboldened by the apparent ease with which Navarro Montes was able to slime his way out of the "criminal justice" system of Mexico. At the same time, how must our Border Patrol agents feel about doing their jobs?
Our government is quick to tout the lower number of Border Patrol apprehensions as evidence that our nation's efforts to secure the border are more effective. Perhaps they are, but I have to wonder how many agents are simply "looking the other way" to avoid deadly confrontations where if they don't get killed or badly injured, they may find themselves being maliciously prosecuted?
Don't get me wrong, I have high respect for the valiant Border Patrol agents who go in harm's way each and every day to secure our borders and protect us- I am just disturbed by the many politicians who don't respect those agents, their dangerous mission or even our nation's borders, for that matter!
Our nation is bleeding red and green! More lives are lost to criminal aliens in our country each year than were lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Meanwhile tens of billions of dollars are wired from the United States to countries all over the world by their citizens who have violated our immigration laws and often other criminal statutes as well. The money they send home is money that is lost to our economy and money that is not being earned by our citizens and lawful resident aliens.
All too many politicians are not even willing to discuss these issues in meaningful, honest terms. It has been said, "Nero fiddled while Rome burned!" I hereby suggest that We the People hold an awards ceremony each year to cite those politicians who are worthy of the "Nero Award!" I would further suggest that it consist of a trophy in the configuration of a fiddle!
These issues are not about partisanship. I don't believe that anyone joins a political party out of a desire to enter into a suicide pact! The issues of border security and the creation of an immigration system that possesses meaningful integrity are neither Conservative issues nor are they Liberal issues, these are AMERICAN issues!
We the People must make it our business to become involved in the debate and force those who allege to represent us to understand what we demand of them and our government!
Until now, this has been the job all too many Americans have not been willing to do- but this must change if our nation and our citizens are to survive!
Democracy is not a spectator sport!
Lead, follow or get out of the way!

It keeps getting worse every day. Our politicians and government officials no longer even pretend they are defending our borders. Mexicans are encouraged to disobey and disrespect our laws and there is no one even facing up to the problem.
We’re becoming nothing but serfs.
I find this interesting. Any time there is a jail break, escape it’s big coverage on the news...unless it’s an illegal alien.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an identification problem. Like O. J. Simpson and Scott Peterson everyone knows who did it but there has to be an appearance that the rule of law is followed during the investigation. This would be a good time for “Navy Seals” to get a little out of country target practice. This guy won’t be missed and will just become another stat in the drug war.
It’s a shame that Agent Luis Aguilar was killed. Had he lived, George Bush and his running dogs could have prosecuted him for violating the civil rights of Jesus Navarro Montes by jumping in front of his car.
ping
Ping!
If you want on, or off this S. Texas/Mexico ping list, please FReepMail me.
And these very same serfs keeping returning to office the very same animals to office election after election so they can keep screwing the serfs who voted for them. You'd think that after awhile they could add 2+2 and come up with no more. Sighhhhhhhhh.
Johnny Sutton must be celebrating.
If Montes isn’t already dead he’s going to be dead soon.
1) He can immediately hand over the murderer.
2) We will send in a Division of Marines, capture and/or reduce the city he is in and bring out the murderer or his carcass, delivering a hundred to one for any Marines killed or injured.
3) We can send a Reaper over the area of Mexico where this animal lives and take him out with a Hellfire missile.
But what we cannot do is allow such a travesty to stand.
“We should contact the President of Mexico and inform him that we can do this one of three ways.

Agreed. Send that list to McCain and see what he thinks.

Corruption in the Mexican government!?!!
Who would have imagined that could happen?
Certainly not “Family Values Don’t Stop At the Rio Grande” Bush. He’s stunned.
Ain’t that the truth.
And I can think of 3 names here at FR who would be cheering on the prosecution.
Who do you think is going to send such a message? Certainly not President Compassion, the first Illegal Alien President.
“And these very same serfs keeping returning to office the very same animals to office election after election so they can keep screwing the serfs who voted for them. You’d think that after awhile they could add 2+2 and come up with no more. Sighhhhhhhhh.”
There in lies the biggest problem. STOP VOTING FOR THE SAME TWO PARTIES THAT KEEP F***ING YOU! VOTE THIRD PARTY!!! THAT IS THE ONLY MESSAGE THAT WILL RESONATE AND SAVE OUR DROWNING COUNTRY.
I’ve been doing just that since 1996 and will again do it this year.
