McCain v. Obama: Supreme Court
The Swamp ^ | June 14, 2008 | Mark Silva

Posted on 06/25/2008 7:10:08 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

The Supreme Court is not on the ballot in November.

But it may as well be.

On any number of critical issues, the inclinations of Republican Sen. John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama on the appointments of Supreme Court justices could turn a divided high court in one direction or another over the coming years.

This editorial is two weeks old, but very important in light of today’s ruling.

If Obama is elected, expect more rulings like the one’s we’re deploring.

I’d like political candidates to list 10 potential SC nominees and 10 cabinet members so we can see who they’ll put in key jobs.

Besides national defense, probably the most important issue and reason to support McCain. Liberal justices are hanging on by a thread. Old age and illness are taking their toll. There will be a minimum of two liberal justices leaving. We can either let the liberals reload the court with young American-hating commies or we can have Fred Thompson vetting judges and getting a right-wing tilt on the court for the first time in my life.

Yep. All one has to do is look at one vote that tells the story - who voted for John Roberts and who didn’t.

"Besides national defense, probably the most important issue and reason to support McCain."

That's how I feel, but I'm concerned that McCain would appoint another Justice Stevens. All we have is his word, and that isn't very reassuring to me. Basically what it all amounts to is with Obama, we are guaranteed to get a liberal justice. With McCain it's a definite possibility.

With Obama it would be a 100% ACLU baby-killing leftwing kook. Knowing McCain and with a Democrat Senate, it will likely be a compromise pick. But replacing sure liberal votes with swing votes is progress. And with Thompson vetting them, there is a chance to sneak a decently conservative judge through.

Republican Presidents nominated seven of the current nine SCOTUS justices. John McCain voted for four of the five justices that have been handing down these terrible majority rulings over the last week. And he would have voted for the fifth, if Stevens hadn’t been confirmed before he came to the Senate.

All I have to go on, is what a candidate has done in his past. John has voted for the worst judges we have today.

So now we have to wonder who John will nominate. And John knows he has such a terrible record on the matter, that he has actually stated Fred Thompson will be put in charge of vetting perspective justices.

How the hell did we get to such a terrible place? Just dang...

That could be true, hopefully. One this is for certain. If Obama is elected we WILL have a liberal justice sworn in. With McCain, a liberal justice only a possibility, because we have no idea what he will really do.

I don’t trust john boy, and anyway Rush is right, there is no way we’ll get any more conservatives through, and Bambi would have a hard time with a liberal. toss up.

Here’s some proof of the pudding: McCain has voted for every judicial nominee put forth by a Republican President, 100%...Here is Dean’s own words about McClain:

“In fact, in his 22 years as a Republican Senator, John McCain has never voted against a single judicial nomination by a Republican President. No matter how far outside the mainstream they have been, John McCain has been a loyal rubberstamp for their radical right wing agenda.”

Looks pretty good to me...and there is more good stuff in the article..

Here is the link to the full text of that article which appears on the Democratic Party’s web page..

Yes, and John has also voted for the best judges we have today too (and some we don’t - Bork). It’s called a courtesy. Face it - it’s about who he would appoint and he has said he wants someone like Roberts. He also said that someone like Souter would not be nominated because he doesn’t have a proven strict constructionist record. BTW, I believe Stevens was confirmed 99-0.

That is SO childish of Obama. I don’t take it as seriously as others do.

TYhe fact that a major party, nominated presidential candidate would be so childish makes it serious.

Norman, what you say is true here as far as it goes. I’m really sorry I can’t agree with the obvious conclusion you are probably headed for though.

I have taken my time to vote for Senators based on the fact they would have final sign off on federal judges. While you and I focus on the SCOTUS nominations and confirmation votes, there are many others that are affected here. And this means John has contributed to placing some terrible judges on the federal benches across this nation.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals wouldn’t be such a vast wasteland if it weren’t for John. That applies to all the circuit courts of appeals. I have had to endure rulings that John has been mucking up for over twenty-five years.

Lets dismiss John for a moment. One of the reasons I have disliked that guy for decades, is the fact that he has contributed to same thing. He has supported every leftist judge that came down the pike, voting to affirm them.

I’m not letting Ted off the hook. Why should I let John off the hook.

And frankly, I just don’t trust John to nominate who he says he will. And I’m not even convinced he’ll let Thompson vet. Even if Thompson does, and suggests some lessers to John, those are the ones I expect John to select ultimately.

You can take me to task here if you like. As a McCain supporter I wouldn’t blame you. I just have no confidence in this guy whatsoever.

You take care.

BTW, I apologize, but the ‘that guy’ I was referring to was Ted Kennedy. I didn’t mention his name and meant to.
