WAS IRAQ WORTH IT?
By Tony Blankley

It has been fashionable — indeed, de rigueur in political and media circles — to view contemptuously President Bush’s assertion that we are fighting the terrorists in Iraq so we wouldn’t have to fight them here. Even conservative commentators have tended to tiptoe around the proposition. We are all far too sophisticated to believe such simplicities. Nor will any self-respecting public chatterer even raise the little matter of America not being hit by terrorism on our soil for the almost seven years since Sept. 11.

And yet the undeniable facts certainly would justify a debate — if not yet a consensus of agreement — on President Bush’s assertions.

HO HUM, A GOVERNMENT SUCCESS STORY:
Instapundit

Much of the Mississippi River Valley is now underwater, and the Associated Press reports from East St. Louis, Ill., that FEMA’s performance has been exemplary . . . . Now, we’d like to see some investigative reporting into the differences between the Gulf Coast in 2005 and the Upper Midwest in ‘08. We’re not prepared to accept on FEMA’s say-so that its leaders learned the lessons of Katrina and everything works now. It’s possible that Katrina was simply a harder-to-manage challenge because it was such a massive storm and because it hit an area (especially New Orleans and Louisiana) with weak social structures and poor government.

Either way, though, the claims that Bush deliberately neglected disaster preparedness have been disproved. If the Katrina-era problems have been remedied, then the Bush administration’s shortcomings were real but inadvertent. If not, then FEMA always was up to the task of an ordinary-scale disaster, and those who expected better of it in Katrina were unrealistic.

Or, possibly, things in New Orleans weren’t as bad as the media claimed at the time.

President George W. Bush makes remarks at the Max M. Fisher National Republican Award Dinner at Laurel Manor in Livonia, Michigan, on June 25, 2008.

President Bush: Over the next few months, you're going to hear a lot of talk about change. The Democrats say they're a party of change. Let me review the history of the Democratic Party.

There was a time when they believed that low taxes were the path to growth and opportunity -- but they've changed.

There was a time when they believed in common-sense American values -- but they have changed.

There was a time when they believed that America should pay any price and bear any burden in the defense of liberty -- but they have changed.

This isn't the kind of change the American people want.

Americans want change that makes their lives better and their country safer. And that requires changing the party in control of the Congress.

And that requires having a Commander-in-Chief who will support our military, and will fight and win the war against those who would do us harm. And that Commander-in-Chief will be John McCain. (Applause.)

And so I thank you for coming tonight. I just want you to know that we've got a lot of work to do together. I don't know about you, but my energy is up and my spirits are high, and I'm going to finish my job with a sprint to the finish line. (Applause.)

I am so sick and tired of the liberals lame excuses of not wanting to lift the ban on drilling and letting the oil companies get the oil out

“I want to hear how he said that! LOL. I’ll bet he sounded like Presley...sort of. :)

Maybe Dr.Deb found the video?? I’m going web diving to see if I can find it.”

The entire speech is one of the two ‘Michigan’ videoclips linked in my previous post (#41)!

I just love listening to the President give a ‘stump’ speech — he’s one of the best EVER! [This speech was excellent; however, the President sounded abit tired — he hasn’t rested since returning from his European trip and he’s off to Japan early next month!]

As much as they'd hate the thought of McCain being President, I can guarantee you they'll LOVE spending time in Sedona, AZ, where McCain lives.

I must admit I had forgotten that Rusdie(I think that is how you spell but not sure) that been given a KBE in 2007 when I read that the Queen had just performed the ceremony I then of course remembered and was surprised it had taken so long to happen from when the KBE was announced.

Loved the pix & the extra effort you used for the captions.. Font lover that I am it is always fun to see something other than regular sized, font, black!!!!

I am sure the president had a wonderful time tonight.. wow.. 5K for a special pix w/pres & 110 paid.. must be nice!

Love everyone’s input. The funny & the supportive comments are so refreshing. I am so tired of going “places” & seeing our president & Senator McCain trashed .. and I am talking about OUR sites. not KOS or DU.

Sweet dreams to all you good people..
