The woman who wants to be the next Republican First Lady pledged today to expand her humanitarian work if she makes it into the White House, taking inspiration from the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
Speaking ahead of a political fundraiser in London tonight, Cindy McCain said that she felt "very honoured" to serve on the boad of the Halo Trust, the Anglo-American anti-landmine charity endorsed by Diana and which organised her controversial walk through an Angolan minefield in 1997, the year of her death.
Speaking to The Times, Mrs McCain said of Diana: "She was (a) great inspiration to me and to the British people as well. She was a remarkable person and had a loving heart.
Ms McCain's London fundraiser was expected to raise at least $500,000 for her husband, John McCain, who needs every penny he can get to match the superior financial firepower of his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama.
In an interview to be published in Times2 tomorrow, Mrs McCain spoke of the problems she faces reconciling her domestic life and charity commitments with being the wife of a presidential candidate. I wont lie to you and say that I always enjoy the campaigning, but when the days get a little long and I get a little frustrated, I remind myself that I have a ringside seat on American history, she said.

To a certain extent I can understand your skepticism. I do want to urge you not to totally dismiss her good works though. Wealthy people are philanthropic. Our nation’s citizens give more money away than the citizen of any other nation, just to help others.
slut
NOUN: 1a. A woman considered sexually promiscuous.
The article indicates that Cindy found Diana’s humanitarian work inspirational, not her personal life.
I don’t fault her for being an heiress. We should all be so lucky! I’m just saying that given her circumstances, anyone could do charity work. It’s not rocket science, after all.
It’s just the same old liberal view:
“If the U.S. approves a global ban of all land mines, American soldiers will be put in greater danger and a harmful double standard will be created in arms control: A country not causing the problem — the United States — will disarm while rogue nations proliferating civilian-killing mines will not join the agreement and will not disarm.”

You’re absolutely right, Americans are the most generous nation with time and money. But all the credit can’t go to one person or even a few. I’m sure there are plenty of people who sacrifice more with what little they have than Cindy does with her lot of what she’s got. Why should she get all the applause? Her circumstances allow it. Many others have circumstances that don’t.
I don’t disagree with your thoughts here. And I don’t urge folks to give Cindy more than passing credit either. Those who give should do it for the realization that it will do good for others, and also make them feel good. That’s all the payment or attention they need.
I will say that when well known people lend their name to efforts, it does encourage others to participate, so you probably shouldn’t do it all anonymously.
You take care.
It doesn’t appear that The HALO Trust campaigns to ban land mines. Their mission statement is that they focus solely on removing them and other debris of war.
Diana did.
You make a lot of sense. Thank you for the input....very helpful! :)
Thank you Derllak. You take care. I didn’t mean to dismiss your whole take on the thing. D1
Hey now, that would be Diana, as in Princess of Wales.
I, Dianna of two N's, am staying out of it! LOL!
Sounds more like your problem.
Hey she dinged me too. Spelled my name right though:’)
Great...so I can go back to “mocking” and you will leave me alone? ::’)
“Diana slept with everything that moved right in front of her children.”
A. Right in front of the kids? Physically having sex with many different partners RIGHT in FRONT of her kids?
B. I’d like to know how you come across such personal information about the late Princess.
Well, you’re the one who will make yourself sick, not me..but hey, go for it.
Well, if she was referring to the Princess, than I agree...she was a slut. I could not stand her. Don’t understand her allure, never did. But that’s just me.
Maybe you should do a bit of research. She took over her Father’s business when he died and DOUBLED the profits. She’s raises her own kids AND does charity work. My gosh, nothing is ever good enough for you people. Bah, humbug.
I think the whole country is sick right now.
