You’re absolutely right, Americans are the most generous nation with time and money. But all the credit can’t go to one person or even a few. I’m sure there are plenty of people who sacrifice more with what little they have than Cindy does with her lot of what she’s got. Why should she get all the applause? Her circumstances allow it. Many others have circumstances that don’t.

I don’t disagree with your thoughts here. And I don’t urge folks to give Cindy more than passing credit either. Those who give should do it for the realization that it will do good for others, and also make them feel good. That’s all the payment or attention they need.

I will say that when well known people lend their name to efforts, it does encourage others to participate, so you probably shouldn’t do it all anonymously.
