Armed And Dangerous (Debbie Schlussel Tries Out A Glock 19! Whooah!)

I was away for an afternoon of lunch and shooting at a gun range with a friend. It was fun, and I hit the target exactly where I was supposed to. The only thing I didn't like: they make you wait a second or two between shots.

In case you were wondering, I used a 9mm Glock 19 model. Read analysis of the Glock 19.

Post 11 shows a real automatic revolver, the Mateba. It shoots from the bottom of the cylinder and is supposed to be easy to control in .44 magnum.

Too expensive to manufacture, though, they stopped making it a couple of years ago.

If they had made one in stainless steel, I would have one.

The army did these tests in the 1950s. They used the 1911, the M1 Carbine, and the M1 Garand. None of the weapons were damaged. Here's yet another site where somebody tried it: http://www.dlsports.com/underwater_handgun_shooting.html

What’s the deal with lead bullets? I’m not familiar with the problem.

Thanks.

" The ex had hocked it and the divorce judge said “ women don’t need guns”."

That was an incredibly sexist statement by the judge!!

Thanks for the link! I looked it over a little before leaving for work. I’ll read it all later though. :-)

>> Last autumn, I got a Springfield XD-9 which changed my mind about the efficacy of 9mm pistols. It’s relatively concealable, even with a police service 4” barrel (the CCW version is 3”).

Had to look up that one. I’ve been looking for a good concealable 9mm. The look reminds me of the Walther P99 — which I actually like. I’ll have to give it a try. Also want to try a Sig Sauer P228 and the HK USP Compact, both of which I’ve heard good things about.

Personally, I find the Sigs to be a little bulky (although they are well-made, and locally here in NH). I tried out the new HK P30 recently (although not the USP, which looks very appealing in the compact .45 version) - It's very ergonomically designed and relatively lightweight. Pricey as hell, though!

You must have something to add about your weapons.........

For Concealing, Carry big guns in winter and small guns in summer.

Unless you're in a free state, then have a ball.

An amusing little tidbit. I was just doing a little general Google searching on the USP Compact — apparently Jack Bauer carries that particular sidearm.

Ha! I think I’m sold.
