Obama: America is 'no longer Christian' Democrat says nation also for Muslims, nonbelievers

JERUSALEM – Some have been taking issue with largely unnoticed comments made last year by Sen. Barack Obama declaring the U.S. is "no longer a Christian nation" but is also a nation of others, including Muslims and nonbelievers.

The comments have been recently recirculating on Internet blogs.

"Whatever we once were, we're no longer a Christian nation. At least not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, and a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers," Obama said during a June 2007 speech available on YouTube.

At the speech, Obama also seemingly blasted the "Christian Right" for hijacking religion and using it to divide the nation:

"Somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and started being used to drive us apart. It got hijacked. Part of it's because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, who've been all too eager to exploit what divides us," he said.

Asked last year to clarify his remarks, Obama repeated them to the Christian Broadcast Network:

"I think that the right might worry a bit more about the dangers of sectarianism. Whatever we once were, we're no longer just a Christian nation; we are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers," Obama wrote in an e-mail to CBN News senior national correspondent David Brody.

"We should acknowledge this and realize that when we're formulating policies from the state house to the Senate floor to the White House, we've got to work to translate our reasoning into values that are accessible to every one of our citizens, not just members of our own faith community," wrote Obama.

Obama did clarify his statement about the "Christian Right."

"My intention was to

You have to give him this, he is wearing his beliefs on his sleeve and still the fools clamor to catch a look, a hand shake, a smile, and still no one cares or cares to listen to what he has in store for us all and how he will bring down capitolism with the help of his fiends.

What’s that sound?

It’s the sound of the ACLU, CAIR and their fellow-travelers chilled
secular hearts beating faster.

Awaiting the day Comrade President Obama gives the go-ahead to do a
number on all historical monuments with a Christian religional tone...
like was done to those statues of Lenin with the downfall of the USSR.

I’m sure they see it as pay-back for all the evil things Ronald Reagan
did to “The Workers’ Paradise”.

So yes, the U.S. was an overwhelmingly Christian nation until recently. It is now following the same path to cultural suicide as Europe.

We were also a nation of white people. Now, we fast becoming the minority in our own country. As soon as amnesty passes all political offices in our government will be held by Mexicans, and we will be the same third world country that Mexico is today. The same Mexicans who destroyed Mexico have invaded America. Thanks to the traitors in DC!

No error. We were never a Christian nation. Maybe your argument should include the Constitution, i.e “what the founders said.”

America was never a “Christian nation” in the sense that it has no official religion, as it should be. However, it was founded by Christian people so there was a “Christian” aura to the early America.

However, this America also allowed Jewish immigrants to become part of this great nation, and one, Chaim Solomon, became Gen. George Washington’s financial angel in supplying the Continental Army in their hour of need. He died a very poor but proud American.

Maryland, where I was born, passed the “Tolerance Act” which gave everyone in the state, freedom of religion. That was a major advance in religious rights, as opposed to Peter Stuyvesant’s expelling Jews from New York (Hey, Peter, we’re back - check out the Broadway show writers).

Obama has no idea what America is because he was raised in a Marxist-rich environment where religion was not a major factor. That is why he became a “Christian again” when he met Rev. Wright, but this brand of Christianity was a black extremist, marxist-tinted “black liberaton theology”,based on the marxist “liberation theology” of Latin America and the wacked out Jesuits of the US.

When Obama says that he sat in Rev. Wright’s pew, I think he meant “Rev. Wrights pee-ew”.
