But the question is, will the candidate who is more toward the center win, or will the candidate who is so far left he is hanging by his fingernails win?
I'll be holding my nose and voting for the one that is more toward the center.
If they are expecting him to win the Presidency, they are delusional.
That describes me (a lefty) pretty well. Although I chose college majors that are a bit heavy on the math (meteorology and comp sci), my actual proficiency tuckered out somewhere over the land of trigonometry. Calculus, yuck.
[angkor] The career guy I knew best from NSA never showed any great interest in numbers or math puzzles, but he was interested in every other kind of puzzle, obscurity, trivia, history, and etymology.
This one describes me even better. I've never been even remotely interested in trying Sudoku, but I love the challenge of a Sunday crossword. And, when I was young, family members knew that if they couldn't think of some other gift for me, it was always safe to give me books on trivia. History, etymology... dang, ya got me.
McCain is for McCain, not for any coherent political philosophy. His hodgepodge of "shoot from the hip" opinionating (detached from actual logic as it is) coincidentally overlaps liberal ideology more than it does conservative ideology.
Of course, the fact that the overlap is coincidental doesn't make his views any less of a threat to the republic.
“One Election Outcome Certain: A Lefty Will Win White House”
Well, heck. If that’s the case, better that it’s OUR lefty than THEIR lefty.
Theirs is farther - MUCH farther - to the left.
Draw some distinctions here, please.

So is Perot, for that matter, so 92 was certain for the Southpaws.
Oddly enough, even though the lefties dominate, until Clinton, no southpaw ever won re-election.
Of course, until Clinton, no Yalie had won relection either.
“If he gets McCain, hell get a liberal president. If he gets Obama, hell get a Marxist dictator. I think theres a difference.”
Agree, and there certainly IS a BIG difference!
I cannot imagine trying to write with my right hand.
It would look worse than something a pre-schooler would do.
McCain's nomination would make a "dark comedy" with Tim Conway as McCain and Joan Rivers as Cindy. It would contain a heart-wrenching scene of McCain asking for a get-together with those who he said torutred him, and Cindy visiting Vietnam. Here something does not ring right.
Could he be mentally ill?
BTW, what happened to the thread of McCain and car battery. I forgot the exact title.
Got pulled, it was from the AP
Yep, I now recall AP’s crazy demands.
A pro-military, anti-abortion liberal or an ANTI-MILITARY-PRO Abortion, Anti-American marxist........the choice is simple!
I'm sorry, but I don't regard the ACU rating as worth much more than Prof. James Hansen's climate prognostications. Both use slanted scales.
The ACU ranks all votes as conservative or liberal, and doesn't take any note of close wins or loses, where the representiatives vote might have been missing. A vote to deny a $100,000,000 pork barrel project is nice, but not in the same league as a vote against the first amendment in the campaign finance mess, or the Gang of 14 episode. A vote for cancelling the first amendment should rate you below 50% on any conservative score, no matter what else you did that year.
There's lots of big evidence that McCain is a big government, nanny-state type, and lots of small evidence that he wants to do this on the cheap. On National Security, he is for fighting overseas, but not on protecting our borders.
There's a lot of evidence that he's a modern progressive/liberal.
This page has a description of how the ACU ratings are gamed, with regard to why McCain's record isn't as conservative as the numbers show:
Another piece of information from the list above is that many of the votes were close. In one third of these votes, a swing of only two senators would have changed the outcome. In over two thirds, a swing of ten senators would have changed the outcome. As someone remarked, McCain is like a baseball player who gets all his hits after two outs and no one on base, and all his outs with men in scoring position.
