McCain-Lieberman Could Be Just the Ticket
Pajamas Media ^ | June 20, 2008 | Jennifer Rubin

From time to time a conservative pundit has suggested that John McCain choose a Democrat for his vice presidential running mate. That usually has been met with howls of derision from other conservatives who find the notion preposterous. But is it?

The main reason is obvious: the untimely demise of McCain would allow a Democrat to ascend to the White House, forfeiting his party’s victory and reversing the popular mandate for a Republican president. (Let’s leave aside for now whether a McCain victory would represent a Republican mandate or a miracle, despite his party affiliation.)

But let’s consider if one specific Democrat, Senator Joseph Lieberman, might make sense as a VP selection for McCain. McCain at times has fueled speculation about Lieberman with effusive praise:

“He’d be a great partner in any endeavor, including joining America together,” McCain said in response to a question on the Lieberman factor. “Let’s reach across the aisle, let’s work together for America. That’s what Joe Lieberman is all about.”

Gov. Sarah Palin. Then at least we’d have the opportunity to vote for a conservative in November.

Only a suicidal fool would put Hillary in a position where their death results in her achieving the power she craves.

“He’s one of the few straight shooters in D. C.”

Yep, he’s usually aiming to shoot down any conservative idea.

“nominally, lieberman is not a democrat, but an independent.”

Yeh, an independent Marxist.

Anyone who believes that Lieberman is fit to run as a Republican is brain-dead for forgetting that this ass ran with Gore as VP.

Lieberman left the rat party because he wanted to fly the hammer and sickle banner. Hell, I think he’s a fascist on odd days.

Umm. Ok, see, this is where people go off the rail... Bringing America together is usually the excuse. However, we are together. We, as a nation, don’t want gays corrupting our marriage ceremonies, we don’t want illegal aliens, we want drilling of our own domestic resources so we stop financing the terrorists we don’t like. We don’t want those in black robes ruling the nation. We have tremendous unity in our desires and wants.

Then there’s the nutcase liberals who’ll buy any story, who claim that Bush is a war criminal, etc. Their version of unity is ‘DO EVERYTHING WE TELL YOU TO DO.’

So, no, we don’t need unity. We need to tell those wackos that they’re welcome to their own opinions, but the rest of us just don’t want it. That Liberman, a liberal, who doesn’t buy as much of that junk is supposedly a peace offering to the left is insane.

Besides, if we’re really digging for a Democrat, I’d much rather have Orson Scott Card. Least he knows how to write.

The delegates need to nominate Hunter or Tancredo for VP. If they nominate a liberal, it will be time to bury the rotting elephant corpse once and for all.

I like Joe. He’s one of the few straight shooters in D. C.

Mr. Cap'n'trade? No thanks. True, he supports the war, but other than that he's a major big government progressive.

no offense,

but lieberman did not want to leave the democrat party.

instead, he was unceremoniously kicked out—

i.e., a younger, radical left rich guy beat him in his own primary.

this guy is the marxist; lieberman more the centrist.

lieberman knew that in the november elections the mainstream voters would return him to office.

he won as an independent, but he caucuses with the democrats.

and he is the friend of john mccain.

In truth nobody deserves JACK. They are elected officials and deserve to act as representatives of the citizens of the greatest nation on earth. That position comes with responsibility but the elitism needs to go away.

I think a cabinet position would be OK. I admire Lieberman for some things, he seems like a fairly principled person. But he should never be the VP pick because he is an abortion supporter. It would be suicidal for McCain to choose him. I hope he will be smarter than that.
