McCain-Lieberman Could Be Just the Ticket
Pajamas Media ^ | June 20, 2008 | Jennifer Rubin

From time to time a conservative pundit has suggested that John McCain choose a Democrat for his vice presidential running mate. That usually has been met with howls of derision from other conservatives who find the notion preposterous. But is it?

The main reason is obvious: the untimely demise of McCain would allow a Democrat to ascend to the White House, forfeiting his party’s victory and reversing the popular mandate for a Republican president. (Let’s leave aside for now whether a McCain victory would represent a Republican mandate or a miracle, despite his party affiliation.)

But let’s consider if one specific Democrat, Senator Joseph Lieberman, might make sense as a VP selection for McCain. McCain at times has fueled speculation about Lieberman with effusive praise:

“He’d be a great partner in any endeavor, including joining America together,” McCain said in response to a question on the Lieberman factor. “Let’s reach across the aisle, let’s work together for America. That’s what Joe Lieberman is all about.”

Then we would have two Democrat tickets.

That's what we have now.

I’ve been told to support McCain if he picks a conservative VP because McCain is old and may not last. Does the same hold true if he picks Joe?

LOL what an election.

I hope all the "true conservatives" on this board who donated and volunteered for Al Gore's former running mate last election cycle are happy.

We COULD have had a GOP Senate if those efforts had gone to help Senators Talent, Burns, and Allen -- all of whom came within 1% of winning, but nooooo, it was sooooo much more important to "beat Ned Lemont" in CT by helping socialist Joe Lieberman.

Well, they got their boy LIEberman re-elected. They deserve him. I guess it won't matter if he's McCain's running mate, since "the WOT is the MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE", right?

I still don’t think I’m voting. I’ve flirted with the option of voting for Bob Barr, but his association with with the ACLU has nixed that thought.

I don’t see Lieberman as a VP candidate. I could see him as Sec. of Defense, though.

In what way do you think one of those three is better than Lieberman? I’ll give you a hint: All four are social Liberals. All of them show Socialist tendencies.

Let's forget for a moment that he is anti-life, anti-Second Amendment, pro-homo marriage, delusional about "global warming". Yeah, let's put all that aside.

He still was part and parcel of the 2000 dem attempt to subvert the Constitution, invalidate Military votes and steal a Presidential election. Haven't heard him answer for that yet

It's going to be hard enough, knowing that my party threw me under the bus, to vote for McCain.

NO!!!

McCain should reach across the aisle and pick a Republican.

Lieberman?

If your going to move left, I’d prefer Rudy...he’s light years more “conservative” than Lieberman economically.

"but his association with with the ACLU has nixed that thought."

How about his hop onto the 'Climate Change' bandwagon? Add that to the mix.

My only problem with Lieberman is that, aside from the war, he is a stone cold doctrinaire liberal. Other than that, he'd be fine!
