Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama said on Friday he expects Republicans to highlight the fact that he is black as part of an effort to make voters afraid of him.
In March he gave a widely praised speech on the subject after receiving criticism over racially charged comments by his longtime pastor. Obama, who faces Republican John McCain in the November election, would be the first black U.S. president.

Obama is black? I thought he was half white.
But is it your white race or black race Barry? We need to know so we get our race cards correct?
He definitely has to keep talking.
It is kind of ‘fearful’ the amount of idiots that say a vote for Obama will be historical..and these are white people.
I wouldn’t care if ‘they’ (black or white) said they wouldn’t vote for McCain for ANY REASON, but the scary part is a good number that at least claim they will vote for with the only reason being he is black and this definitely includes some that one would have thought were good Conservatives, if not Republicans.
Powell doesn’t bother me (I always thought he would go where his chances were best ...like Ike did...) but Watts and Williams were supposedly committed R’s and they even say they are leaning towards Obama because of the race thing.
I refuse to vote for Obama because, for all practical purposes, he is a communist.
His presidency would be the biggest catastrophe in American history, if not world history.
His race doesn’t matter to me one iota....if he was a conservative, I’d vote for him in a heartbeat.
The only person stoking racial fears is Obama himself
(and his crazy ex-minister).
Huey Long laughs at this Empty Suit.
The man of “change”?
Sounds like he’s just playing on our fears!
Now, where have I heard that line before?
The only person I hear yelling race, race, race is Obama. I am starting to visualize an out of control sports car.
Yawn.
Exactly!!
Most FReepers vote based on politics/character as opposed to skin color.
Obama supporters are the true racists!!
He forgot to mention that he is also a racist and communist who bashes his own grandmother in search of votes.
Geesh... Enough of the cries of racism already! I’ve had enough... OBAMA and his campaign are the ones making this an issue. They know that if they keep race-baiting they can avoid the serious questions, and make up for his character defects. They will use this, and use this to counter ANYTHING the “right” puts up there.
What’s amazing me, is that anyone truly believes there are that many cut-and-dried true racists in our society! I just don’t see it. I’m not saying that there isn’t racism still, but it’s not as widespread as these people make it out to be!
I would like to think that people are making up their minds on who to vote for WITHOUT regarding race - which I KNOW the majority of Americans will do! All this race-baiting does is inflame tensions - and perhaps CREATE more racism!
After all, we’ve already seen what Obama is doing to the black conservatives among us... It’s like he’s guilting everyone into supporting him, cause he’s a “poor” black man, and if you don’t fall in love with him and his mantra of change and hope then you are truly just an anti-black racist - and if you’re black then if you consider voting for McCain you are “turning your back” on your “own people”...
This is all just so disgusting!
I thought that was Hillary’s domain?
The Dalai Bama has to understand that we’re voting against him not because he’s black but despite the fact that he’s black. Likewise, I’d vote for a Sowell - Williams ticket (Blacks To The Future) despite the fact that they’re black. They’re both conservatives; ergo, they’d get my vote regardless of their race.
Since Barry represents America hating Marxism, I doubt that his race will be much of a significant negative issue with Republicans. But Democrats are different story, when candidates invoke Marxism and hatred of America, they tend to get the warm fuzzies. But I suspect that race may have been an issue in lot of states for Democrats where they chose the witch over Barry.
...and we would be right.
And an "Obamaphobic" at that.
Unreal.
