Sect chief's daughter seeks order against FLDS official
Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News ^ | June 20, 2008 | Terri Langford and Lisa Sandberg

Posted on 06/20/2008 3:36:08 PM PDT by Flo Nightengale

A lawyer for the 16-year-old daughter of polygamist group leader Warren Jeffs is requesting a restraining order to prevent a spokesman for the group from intimidating and harassing the girl.

The request for a restraining order against Willie Jessop was filed in San Angelo today by Natalie Malonis.

The teenager was one of the hundreds of children taken from the Yearning For Zion Ranch by Texas Child Protective Services in April because investigators believed they were exposed to abuse by members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Her name is not being disclosed because Malonis has said that she is a victim of sexual abuse.

Malonis, of Dallas, maintains in her request that Jessop has ''engaged in conduct designed to intimidate and harrass'' Malonis and her client.

Several sources close to the case have indicated that the girl is expected to be asked to testify before a Schleicher County grand jury, which next week will begin hearing the state of Texas' criminal case against FLDS members.

Malonis' request comes one day after investigators from the Texas Attorney General's Office attempted to serve the girl with a subpoena, but were unable to locate her.

''I believe that (the girl) was avoiding service because of coercion and improper influence from Willie Jessop,'' the request states.

Jessop called the petition "outrageous."

"She's trying to blame me for her client not liking her," he said today. "It shows her pathetic mindset. The only thing I ever did was try to get them together."

Jessop disputed the notion that he has attempted to intimidate Malonis or her client

Wouldn’t the guardian ad litem be the one that would have to file for a change of representation?

I think an attorney would be responsible for court filings. I don't think a guardian as litem has to be an attorney.

“They”, the court, is really singular in this case:

Judge Barbara Walthers

Yes, that judge.

Maybe you should start a thread on Nancy Grace.

Frankly, I shudder just mentioning her name.

“Nevertheless, if some other lawyers come forward perhaps they might actually crack the silence if there is truly any of that stuff going on. So far - nada, zip, zilch.”

So far, none. That’s a good thing, right?

Could be. I wonder if she taped it?

One, that the article title and lead in paragraph are not what the article is about,

Actually though, it was only the title that was misleading.

Here are the first two sentences of the article.

The TITLE was definitely the 'misleading' item.

And they don't give you the details until you read on, and they spread them out, sometimes in an apparent attempt to mislead the reader.

I guess it all depends on the reader.

Well, if there is anything going on that was nefarious and against the law, those that took part need to be punished. I would be happy if someone came forward and spilled the beans if there are beans to spill. So far the alleged crimes are being tried in the press and by keyboard pixel jockies with prisms creating from cognitive dissonance, and there doesn’t seem to be truth to the widespread rumors. So far, no beans at play and so far no children have been abused as claimed,,, in Texas.

If you have a problem with the title of the article, maybe you should file a complaint with the publisher.

I saw the attorney on Nancy Grace and she did not seem “hysterical” to me. Rather, she seemed concerned about the welfare of her client, a minor child.

It seems that neither the child nor her mother had a problem with the attorney until Willie the Thug got himself involved in the situation.

I don’t know about that; if a lawyer requested a restraining order on behalf of a 16 year old for intimidation and harassment wouldn’t one assume she was doing it in conjunction with the girl not against the wished of the girl? You have to read a long way to find out that wasn’t the case don’t ya?

OK.

If Jeffs daughter has a court appointed guardian, is not her purpose to be concerned for the welfare of the child, and to intercede if the guardian feels the attorney is not showing concern for what the child wants?

So, wouldn’t the guardian then ask the attorney ad litem to file to removal? And let the court select, or approve an attorney that the child and guardian agreed on?

? I’m not the legal expert, in any way, so I’m asking for help, anyone??????

I figured you for a regular to the show. Do you catch the re-runs too? Just wondering.

By the way, I was disappointed if you can recollect and follow. Don’t you think it would be good news if there were things going on that were bad. It would be good that someone came forward willing to testify and put an end to harassment and intimidation if it were going on? So far, just like the article the other day and alluded to again today, some of you have to hope the grand jury actually gets a case or two to ponder. Because, so far, the ifs, the mights, the coulds, the possibles, the maybes are just that and can be looked at another way like perhaps - maybe not, possibly not, possibly won’t, etc. etc.

Maybe all this smoke everyone is creating in their collective heads is from a stink bomb rather than a fire.

Well, first we’d have to accept that it really happened that way.

Which is not a conclusion I can come to at this point.

Unfortunately, we are all stranded in a sea of speculation.

My hope is that the AG isn’t.

Just so you know, I didn’t sign the petition on her. So far, the court system has worked properly as she was overturned for her wrong decision. I just feel that there might be huge issues with any legitimate wrongdoing because of the way things were handled. That is if, there was any truth to the allegations of course. Tainted.

“not against the wished of the girl?”

You are trying to use that a proof, when that is the subject of the speculation.

(now you’ve got me doing it!)

You are trying to use that as proof.

“If a lawyer requested a restraining order on behalf of a 16 year old for intimidation and harassment wouldn’t one assume she was doing it in conjunction with the girl not against the wished of the girl?”

Only if it was the girl’s wish, and not the result of Willie being successful in intimidation and harassment.

So far, we only have a ‘letter’, which is supposedly ‘from’ the daughter. There is no proof she even wrote it, at this point.

Aye although in that case, they were far more restricted in how they could move. If she was semi-stable, it would have been time for a roadtrip.

Fascinating to me. Consider this, I could be arguing about recipes somewhere, body modifications, toe-jam, dog training, computer wars, etc. any ole time any where on the web. Me, I am a boring ole conservative so if I do hang out it is likely here on political issues like this I find important or that intrigue me.
