Sect chief's daughter seeks order against FLDS official
Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News ^ | June 20, 2008 | Terri Langford and Lisa Sandberg

A lawyer for the 16-year-old daughter of polygamist group leader Warren Jeffs is requesting a restraining order to prevent a spokesman for the group from intimidating and harassing the girl.

The request for a restraining order against Willie Jessop was filed in San Angelo today by Natalie Malonis.

The teenager was one of the hundreds of children taken from the Yearning For Zion Ranch by Texas Child Protective Services in April because investigators believed they were exposed to abuse by members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Her name is not being disclosed because Malonis has said that she is a victim of sexual abuse.

Malonis, of Dallas, maintains in her request that Jessop has ''engaged in conduct designed to intimidate and harrass'' Malonis and her client.

Several sources close to the case have indicated that the girl is expected to be asked to testify before a Schleicher County grand jury, which next week will begin hearing the state of Texas' criminal case against FLDS members.

Malonis' request comes one day after investigators from the Texas Attorney General's Office attempted to serve the girl with a subpoena, but were unable to locate her.

''I believe that (the girl) was avoiding service because of coercion and improper influence from Willie Jessop,'' the request states.

Jessop called the petition "outrageous."

"She's trying to blame me for her client not liking her," he said today. "It shows her pathetic mindset. The only thing I ever did was try to get them together."

Jessop disputed the notion that he has attempted to intimidate Malonis or her client

Let the legal processes begin:

Grand jury session could affect polygamist sect case
By Paul A. Anthony (Contact)
Friday, June 20, 2008

A Schleicher County grand jury will convene next week - a rare second sitting this month that could have implications for the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The exact day has not been officially set, a Schleicher County clerk said, and state law keeps details of grand jury proceedings strictly under wraps.

The grand jury already met this month and handed down 18 indictments unrelated to the April 3 raid on the FLDS compound; a second meeting in a month is quite rare, the clerk said.

.....snip

The criminal investigation, sparked by a phone call now believed to be a hoax, is one of four known probes into activities at the YFZ Ranch, which FLDS leaders founded in late 2003 near Eldorado.

The state’s Child Protective Services agency also continues to investigate allegations that underage girls were forced into marriage with older men, while attorneys for a Utah-based trust are looking into whether its funds were improperly used to purchase and build the ranch. The FBI also has opened a criminal probe.

.....end snips

Meanwhile, in the enlightened state of Massachusetts, 15 year-olds are choosing to get knocked up by hobos.

It is a wacky world.

First, I read the whole article.

Then I went to other sources.

Here is some qoutes from CNN.

Since Jessop has inserted himself into the case, Malonis said, her excellent attorney-client relationship has deteriorated, and she has not been permitted to speak to the girl without him being present.

According to court documents, Jessop told Malonis that the girl needed an attorney who would advocate for the FLDS church and the members’ lifestyle.

Malonis said the Texas attorney general’s office told her the girl will be called to testify before a grand jury in the next few weeks. On Thursday, she said in the application, authorities attempted to serve the girl with a subpoena but could not find her.

In addition, Malonis said, the girl has expressed anger and hostility toward her, which she believes Jessop instigated.

The application is attached to a letter from the girl that says she wants Malonis released as her attorney because she has said “untrue statements about me and has tried to make me admit things that did not happen.”

“I believe that [the girl] was avoiding service because of coercion and improper influence from Willie Jessop,” Malonis said.

“Based on my dealings with Willie Jessop, I believe he exercises a great deal of control over [the girl], and I am certain that he is interested in protecting the church’s interests,” Malonis said.

Time for CPS to do a roll call.

I think there will be a little more than a role call coming if in fact this girl is now missing.

more:

“Based on my dealings with Willie Jessop, I believe that he exercises a great deal of control over (the girl), and I am certain that he is interested in protecting the church’s interests and the interests of certain influential male members as opposed to (the girl’s) legal interests,” court-appointed attorney Natalie Malonis wrote in an affidavit filed in a San Angelo court and obtained by the Deseret News.

< snip >

Malonis claims that she had a good relationship with the girl and her mother, but says Willie Jessop interfered. During a meeting at the YFZ Ranch, Malonis said that Jessop told her that the girl needed an ad litem who would advocate for the FLDS lifestyle.

“Mr. Jessop informed me that if I was not willing to take such a stance in (the girl’s) case, then I was ‘against the FLDS’ and he would get another lawyer for (the girl),” Malonis wrote. “(The girl) said nothing during the entire conversation, even when I directed my comments and questions to her.”

< snip >

Earlier this week, Malonis was told that the girl would be subpoenaed to testify before the grand jury. A couple of days later, she said the girl sent her several hostile e-mails about being subpoenaed and refused to answer the phone. On Thursday, the Texas Attorney General’s Office told her that the girl could not be found.

So, if the girl shows up to testify with a new lawyer, I would say Willie Jessop’s comments might be valid.

If the girl is never heard from again, then....

Did Willie appoint himself an advocate, and why did he have to be at the client-attorney meetings?

He isn’t her father. I guess she could have ‘asked’ for him to be there. Or maybe she ‘knew’ she’d better ask.

Did Willie appoint himself as an advocate for all the children in this case, or just the one relating to Warren Jeffs specifically?

I hope the state really knows where she is, or can find her.

I would hate to think she got shipped off to Canada or something.
