CABLE GUYS LUST FOR TIM'S JOB (K.O. "threatened to quit" if not given Russert's spot, source says

TIM Russert's body wasn't even cold in the ground before MSNBC anchors Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann started jockeying for his job, sources claim.

Matthews was heard loudly discussing what seemed to be his strategy for landing Russert's "Meet the Press" show at Wednesday's memorial reception for the NBC Washington bureau chief at the Kennedy Center in DC. After Brian Williams, Carl Bernstein, David Gergen, Barbara Walters and NBC brass eulogized their friend, Matthews huddled with an unidentified "agent type" and seemed to be plotting...

Meanwhile, Matthews' MSNBC cable cohort Olbermann, who was also at the memorial, is "threatening to quit if he isn't installed as Russert's replacement," another insider said. "I know, it sounds ludicrous, but, then, Keith Olbermann is ludicrous."

“Matthews’ MSNBC cable cohort Olbermann, who was also at the memorial, is ‘threatening to quit if he isn’t installed as Russert’s replacement,’”

Promises, promises. If only!

without a doubt..O-man has TO BE A BLIND EGOTIST to
even think he has the smarts or personality to do the
job. He is a hack in his present little gabfest...he
feeds off of O’Reilly....From the ones I see...only
one that is half-way qualified is Brian Williams....but
he is also a little over-bearing sometime?? JK

Olbermann is on record as stating it isn’t true, and also saying he didn’t consider himself qualified for the Meet the Press slot.

Osama bin Olberman isn't qualified to host "Dialing for Dollars."

She is the host of the “Chelsea Lately” show. It is a similar format to Steve Colbert or Jon Stewart.

There is no one currently on the NBC payroll capable of the job. Brit Hume would work for me. I’ll bet Chris Wallace is throwing his name out there.

I hate it when it works out that way. The smug (sputters a few words that start with”p”), BMOC’s making sure they’re overheard discussing war-plans. Miss mannners would not approve.

I think Mr. Brokaw would be put a very nice spin on things. He’s a real class act. Sharp as a tack.

It was probably Matthews who put out the rumor about Olbermann...

Could be. That's about the only way Matthews can look rational.

Good point...Rush. But could you keep him clean and sober? Then again, does he only have a face for radio?

And a polished interviewer. Williams may do a good job of reading the news, but can he take people on one-on-one like Russert could? Time will tell. Either way I don't see Matthews or Olbermann having a prayer.

Nor do I. And Rush, (my comment to Ron above), I think he has the tactical skills, but no female skew. The women that Rush appeals to are not a major market share. Granted we’re talking about Sunday programming, but there are people who wait all week to catch up with this instition. The wrong face, the wrong chemistry, wouldn’t serve the network well when every 20 seconds a stellar new journalista invades the cable industry by storm.
