U.S. officials say Israel carried out a large military exercise this month that appeared to be a rehearsal for a potential bombing attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, The New York Times reported on Friday.
Citing unidentified American officials, the newspaper said more than 100 Israeli F-16 and F-15 fighters took part in the maneuvers over the eastern Mediterranean and Greece in the first week of June.
It said the exercise appeared to be an effort to focus on long-range strikes and illustrates the seriousness with which Israel views Iran's nuclear program. The newspaper said Israeli officials would not discuss the exercise...

If only we had half the intestinal fortitude that the Israelis have.
Exercises by various nations happen all the time. To conclude it’s offensive is an opinion and nothing more.
Exercise APPEARED to be...
And thanks NYT for disclosing this.... Unnamed officals.... appeared to be.... pure conjecture.
I had intended to post that any military action would have to wait for the next Israeli PM, probably Natenyahu. That the incumbent lacks the fortitude for such an action after his debacle in Lebanon. Military maneuvers are sometimes just maneuvers.
Then it occurred to me that with the corruption charges poised to take him down, such a high-stakes gamble might be the only chance he has to ensure a legacy other then a cheaply bought and paid-for politician. The leader who defanged the Iranian nuke program would be a significant figure in Israeli history regardless of lesser problems. It’s an interesting thought.
We've overflown the Mediterranean many times.
Why is it heroic when Israel does it?
They may have the guts... but not the firepower or logistical support to fully succeed in conventional airstrikes. Essentially, they will just kick the beehive and hope Iran goes mental... by lashing out at America in Iraq and unleashing their trained monkeys in Lebanon and Gaza.
No matter who starts it, it's a job that must be attended to... and finished.

Tne New York TImes, like the IAEA, is on its knees for Iran.

Geez, not quite as scary as it might have been two years ago.
Bluff. If they could maneouvre the US of A to do another war, sure, but Israel will not fight alone.
And what is ‘GOD’s’ role here?
Since you seem privileged to know.
Please. The Olmert Govt is weak. Nothing in Israel is going to happen until his crises is over. This may be dragged into the President McCain administration, because Olmert is not going any where until January.
un-identified officials again. Un-elected too?
And what is GODs role here?
The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” - Genesis 12:1-3
I don’t know about you, but if I have a choice to either be blessed by God or be cursed by Him, I’m going to go for the blessings.
James
We can only hope.
Oh right. And so those in people who moved to Palestine from Russia, Germany, and other places in Europe are the true descendants of “Abram.”
Seems a lot of people are descendants of ‘Abram,’ so before I’ll subscribe to your interpretation of mythology, I’ll have to ask to see a receipt.
A nuclear “accident” at the Iranian nuke facility would solve the problem, at least temporarily. One cruise missile, stealth cloaked, a 10 KT kaboom...and plausible deniability.
