Chicago Tribune Using Obama Teeshirts to Sell Subscriptions
http://illinoisdemnet.com/node/4798 ^ | 6/19/8

The deal is, if you sign up for the Chicago Tribune at one dollar a week, you can get one of the hats or teeshirts for free. And what's on the teeshirt? Why "Obama" of course. It wasn't the official campaign logo but it was his name splashed across the white cotton fabric. The only reason I noticed is because the woman called out to everyone entering the store saying they could get a free "Obama" teeshirt if they signed up for the Tribune.

Considering the Trib is who sued to open Jim Ryan’s divorce proceedings and paved the way for B. Hussein Obama to become a Senator, is this of any surprise?

Is it legal? Are these promotional items or are they campaigning?

Isn’t this a campaign contribution for the Obama campaign?

I mean it ISN’T third party campaign mechandise. It is being GIVEN away.

And it isn’t an editorial endorsement. It is paid advertising.

What does the FEC say about it?

So much for unbiased journalism - the lefty SOBs could have easily had both candidates.

Gun show in Denver last weekend - Mr. Nice Afroman who usually sells there - good quality shirts at a nice price - had Obama shirts all over the place. I didn’t have the heart to tell him why his booth was being avoided like he had the plague.

Hey it's still a free country (sort of). At least they're being honest about it and not trying to hide behind some silly non-partisan mask.

The Tribune is no more than Obama’s press agent. There isn't even the pretense of covering him or his candidacy fairly. Latest example: the Tribune has totally spiked the Burkha-gate incident in which Obama’s folks ethnically cleansed Muslims from an Obama photo-shoot. Fortunately, we now have the Net and talk radio.
I haven't bought a copy of the Trib since 2003. One is better informed WITHOUT it.

Looks like the Chicago Trib finally came out of the closet.

Here’s the difference between their side and our side: They fight this kind of thing. If a Pennysaver in the most remote part of Alaska offered McCain T-shirts, the libs would be all over it. This is the CHICAGO TRIBUNE endorsing Obama and we’ll feign outrage..and then do nothing. And they know it. The Churches, the TV time...they do it because they know we won’t do a damn thing about it.

What does the FEC say about it?

Nothing. They never rebuke Democrats, or maybe they slap their wrists a year or two after the election is over.

And, in any case, there is no FEC at the moment. They lack a quorum, the Democrats are refusing to bring Bush's three nominations up for a vote, so there's nothing they can legally do about ANYTHING during this election cycle. And after the election, they are counting on confirming three of Obama's appointees.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Unless they also offered a McCain shirt, then I would have serious questions about who authorized this, and if it violates election laws...

What can I say though - par for the course in Chicago...

Someone should print out a list of Obama’s view on gun control and try to educate him... Sounds like he made a poor investment in buying these shirts - not one of them is going to sell at a gun show!

I think you underestimate the appeal of a t-shirt for target practice. ;)

Tis true! LOL I was going to say that the only way he’d sell any was if people were going to “alter” it - I was thinking with a big red circle and slash, but your idea is better! :)

Seems to me they’d be useful for washing bird crap off your car or dog poop off your shoe.
