A movie adaptation of Dan Browns book, Angels and Demons, is now in production; it is the prequel to the film, The Da Vinci Code. There are reports today that the Vatican has banned those associated with Angels and Demons from shooting in Catholic churches in Rome or in the Vatican itself. This is important because there are scenes in the movie that are supposed to take place in the Vatican and in two churches in Rome.
Angels and Demons stars Tom Hanks in his role as Robert Langdon, the symbologist. This time he is trying to unravel a plot by a secret society, the Illuminati, to blow up the Vatican during a papal conclave.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue defended the Vatican today:
We are delighted that Ron Howard and his Hollywood minions have been denied the opportunity to exploit the Catholic Church again. Any movie about Catholicism which draws on the specious work of Dan Brown is bound to offend Catholic sensibilities, so it was only fitting that Howard was shown the gate.
According to Brown, his latest effort purports to reveal a lot of inside information about the Vatican that is unflattering. Right away we know hes playing fast and loose: How would he have access to inside information about the Vatican? Moreover, it goes without saying that anything he writes about the Catholic Church would be unflattering, so much so that it explains his defensiveness. Its certainly not an anti-Catholic book, he says. Could it be pro-Catholic?
Just as revealing is Browns comment that Separating Illuminati fact from fiction can be difficult on account of the massive quantities of misinformation that has been generated about the brotherhood. This is vintage Brown: mix fact and fiction together, stir well, and throw the stew on the screen. Then hope the gullible bite.
In any event, Howard will now have to drop a few dimes to find some other churches to rip off.
Yeah, it only took in a measly $758,239,851 in worldwide box office. A complete flop.
Didn’t care for Hanks in Turner and Hooch but I loved that big slobbery dog!
It’s not just anti-Catholic, it’s anti-Christian.
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that’s not Ron Howard! LOL
the picture you posted is Jerry Mathers who was the “Beaver”
Ron Howard directed one of his first movies (Cotton Candy) at my high school.
I will say he and his family were very, very nice. He was great with all of us high school kids. He was so patient about taking pictures with us and signing autographs.
Charlie Martin Smith (toad from American Graffiti) was the star of the movie, and he was a total jerk.
I wish Ron Howard wasn’t making this kind of movie. It just makes me sad.

I don’t care what your political stripe, that’s impressive.
I would agree with you that Williams is overrated as a comedian, but he's a great dramatic actor. His performance in Insomnia was brilliant, one of the best movie villains I've ever seen.
You reflect my thoughts on Ron Howard as well. I think the guy is a good person, but this is not the type of endeavor he should be putting his efforts into IMO. Despite our individual past, we have to make new choices each day that will in time serve to reflect who we truly are.
One movie regarding the Davinchi Code, find. Now two movies regarding the church. I think that’s a mistake.
There has to be other topics Howard could find that would be more respectable.
“I would agree with you that Williams is overrated as a comedian, but he’s a great dramatic actor.”
I haven’t seen that one but I’ll also give you “Good Will Hunting” and “Awakenings”. He did do well in those.
He was best in his goofy days when he used to play light roles like "Big".
Now he's way too full of himself.
Bachelor Party is by far the greatest movie Tom Hanks has ever done. Nothing even comes close. His career has been on a downward spiral ever since.
Geez! Who knew?
They will make it even more complicated: Father O'Malley would molest the choirboys AND impregnate the nuns. Bergman's character would be the lesbian who 'fights' for the rights of the nuns (and their 'rights' to abort O'Maley's babies from the affairs). At the end, the rich guy would confiscate the church's building and make it a parking lot (which is actually about to happen in the movie). The kids would have to prostitute themselves (with O'Malley as a pimp).
