.- The Times of London reported this week that the Anglican Church is facing a new crisis with 500 priests threatening to leave if women are ordained bishops.
The newspaper reported that the priests have said they would leave the Church if the proposal is approved at the next general synod scheduled for July of this year.
Many priests said they feel betrayed by the proposal, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams and Archbishop John Sentamu of York have responded by saying they would work for a compromise rather than allow female bishops, even though both are in favor of female clergy.
Fifteen provinces of the Anglican Communion have voted in favor of female bishops, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Central America, Mexico, the Philippines, South Africa and the United States.
Wow.
I’d like to hear their reasons for being against female priests. Seems to me this has to be a pretty hard sell for a church.
It's okay for women to lead the flock; but, priests cannot be lead by women.
I'm just saying.........
Why a hard sell?
Maintaining orthodoxy is certainly in line with over two thousand years of biblical teaching.
If I was an Anglican priest I wouldn’t leave the church over female priests but I most assuredly would leave over practicing homosexuals as priests...like that freak in New Hampshire.
If these men are OK with female priests then they would be ineligible for ordination under the Pastoral Provision.
St. Paul set up who could and could not be a bishop, per inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and the list did not include women.
It’s very explicit.
Anglican ping
Excellent...that would be 500 narrow minded men that we don’t need in the Church in the year 2008.
No Girlz Allowd! But they’re okay with faggots!
Lot’s of Anglican priests think he’s kind of sexy.
I don’t particularly care what the Anglican entity does in this instance, but the problem with female priesthood comes down to Christ not creating any female Apostles.
The ‘Priestly’ sacraments - the ones only Priests can perform, were reserved to the Apostles and their descendants by Christ. Christ could have had female Apostles, but He did not do so. Was this a mere happenstance, or is there a reason we may not be seeing?
Given that Jesus, the Second Person of the Trinity and God Almighty, created the very concepts of Male and Female, it’s not likely to be an accident. But it’s not obvious and self-evident that female Priesthood is incorrect.
It may be that a female Apostulate is like the gentile Apostulate. Gentiles were only introduced into the Church after St Peter’s vision of ritually unclean foods. My understanding is that it would take such an event - a vision, or perhaps other sign - for women to be admitted to the Priesthood within the Universal Church.
Excellent. That type of broad-minded, inclusive policy has emptied the pews everywhere it's been tried.
When supposed preachers of the word of God do not obey it, they are in trouble. That this is an issue is sad.
