Scoot Around These Gas Prices
self | 06/16/2008 | vanity

Anybody want to talk about scooters and mini bikes? Face it, with these gas prices the idea makes sense. I have one that gets 80 MPG and tops out at 45 MPH. It cost less than $1500 and, in the State of Georgia, for less than 50cc, there is no registration, no advalorum tax and no special operator's license. Plus the insurance costs about $120 a year and there are special parking places available.

I know these aren't Harley's, alright? But they sure are fun and CHEAP!!

Some of these posters need to just stay in bed. It gets’ dangerous as soon as your feet hit the floor.

Indeed. For getting around town, these things are great!

or a miata, or a metro, or an aveo, or a mini..
for that matter, you could be in the escalade and have to get pried out of the wheel well of a semi.

FR will (has) become our Golden Dragon

(I think that was the tavern the colonialists met in)

It was the Green Dragon.

I got to see an MP3 up close. What's neat is despite the two wheels up front, it handles just like any other motorcycle. Because there's more rubber on the road, it can out-turn most other bikes.

Oh yeah, it's also unbeatable in a slow race. LOL!

Yes, I was going to say the same thing, or how about when one gets caught in heavy traffic on the Interstate between two Semi’s. If they manage to survive, they will never risk that again. Under those circumstances, even a Harley would be in jeopardy. These toys would become road-kill along with the driver.

Scooters are fun but make sure you get a 125 to 150 cc model so you can at least keep up with city traffic.

With 400cc and over - you can keep up with traffic anywhere.

I'd go with Suzuki, Honda, Yahama or Piaggio. Maybe even a Kymco if you're willing to do the prep work.

When you’re hit by a full size vehicle at highway speeds, ejected and your head plows into a concrete barrier the helmet is useful for keeping all your parts together.

Or a semi...

I saw one at work and thought that it was pretty cool looking. I was also surprised by the speedometer on it and the new Vespas; I had no idea that they were that fast these days. When I was in high school, a friend of mine had a Honda that might make it to 40mph if you were going downhill. These new models can haul a$$.

It wasn't a pretty process.

I used to have a Honda 50 back several years ago, when I was single and between cars.

I went everywhere on that thing. It was fun, but I needed something bigger.

Nowadays, I commute 30 miles each way to work. A scooter wouldn’t cut it, unless it was a high-powered one like the Honda Helix. Even then, with as much as it rains here...not a good idea.
