Scoot Around These Gas Prices
self | 06/16/2008 | vanity

Posted on 06/16/2008 3:55:55 PM PDT by groanup

Anybody want to talk about scooters and mini bikes? Face it, with these gas prices the idea makes sense. I have one that gets 80 MPG and tops out at 45 MPH. It cost less than $1500 and, in the State of Georgia, for less than 50cc, there is no registration, no advalorum tax and no special operator's license. Plus the insurance costs about $120 a year and there are special parking places available.

I know these aren't Harley's, alright? But they sure are fun and CHEAP!!

I intend to post that on every thread that has anything to do with .. "Look what we can do if we will just change our ways .. " type(s) of subject(s).

I didn't post this thread for that reason. If you think so, you are wrong.

To be fair there should be a photo of one after an accident

I consider it my bicycle, only much easier to go up hills.

A set of highway pegs would top those machines off.Figure we’ll be seeing a few here in Alabama.

Add a set of ape hangars and some Vance and Hines pipes. Anybody feel up to a Photoshop challenge?

I own 2 Harley’s. A 2000 Ultra Classic (black and green) and a 2002 Road King Classic (pearl white). I will never get the mileage that you will, BUT...... I am will always look a lot better than you when I thunder past you on the road. ;>)

Now I have one more reason for my loud pipes...that’s so folks on those things can’t hear me laughing as I fly by and rack my pipes. ;>)

I mean no disrespect, they seem to be growing in popularity in places like Seattle....but I am always going to laugh whenever I see one....ok, except at the gas station of course.

Please though, for your own good... do not try to brag about your scoot at a gas station where other bikers are present, and for God’s sake, stay at least 5 miles away from any biker bar. ;>) ;>) ;>)

If it get’s so bad that I can’t ride a Harley, I am going to buy a horse....I know, I know, but I will still look cooler than you. ;>)

Oh, one more thing. John Wayne would have never ridden one of those. ;>)

I bought a Yamaha Vino 125 in October ‘06 and I’m hooked. 61,000km (38,000 miles) with just one major repair, 100mpg, top speed 85-100 km/h (52-62mph), and even with the insurance it’s still cheaper than taking the bus to work. IMNSHO the 50cc scooters, especially the 4-stroke models, do not have enough power to be safe in traffic. Something in the 125-200cc range only costs a few hundred more and has *just* enough power to get out of town if you so desire (I rode mine around Lake Erie last weekend on a charity ride).

Some of the best values for the money in the small-displacement range:

Yamaha Vino 125
Piaggio Fly 150
Kymco Bet & Win 150, Bet & Win 250
Kymco People 200

"I didn't post this thread for that reason. If you think so, you are wrong."

No, I certainly didn't, nor think now, you posted so I could say that.

But then, I'm sure John Adams thought he too was facilitating better relations with King George when he allowed the regulars to have the guns and ammo in the Boston Armory.

I'm prepared to say anything and do anything to save my America ... and as a homeschooling parent ... I am predisposed to rebel against and reject anything that smacks of re-arranging my thought processes and the thoughts of others.

On one level, scooters make sense ... I'm just not on that level.
